Russell T Davies returns to cosmic horror, a medium in which he excels, in “The Well”, an episode full of invisible enemies, reigns of terror, and a need to listen! What did the Three Who Rule think of this scary excursion 400,000 years into the future? And more to the point, did you know Steven helped get HD footage into The War Games In Colour? Plus new Big Finish including Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill’s first audio adventure, a book about Kangs (who don’t conquer), a big ol’ Quatermass box set, and more! Next week, will it be our Lucky Day?

Those crazy kids came soooo close to proving my book wrong.
Buy my book. It is still correct.

PS I really should have used the BBC Written Archives Centre's proper name here. That'll be sorted in the next print run! The first draft of history is where the typos are...

Text from my book on the Doctor Who serial The Myth Makers.

"This has been a longer archaeological dig than I had at first intended, and I’d like to offer my apologies if I have occasionally wearied you with my attention to small details. I maintain the best way to arrive at an accurate bigger picture is to start small and work back, but I appreciate this is slow, exacting and sometimes pedantic work. They will never make an Indiana Jones movie about the decipherment of Linear B."

Stephen Wyatt, the writer from off of the Doctor Whos has just delighted me by dropping a line saying how much he liked my Black Archive on The Myth Makers (a show he greatly enjoyed on transmission, which I think has some bearing on his approach to writing the Doctor Whos). You might like it too. It's had a couple of nice reviews. Contains sources, lit crit, biographical essays, textual analysis, production minutiae, jokes, pedantry, the lot... #DoctorWho #ObverseBooks obversebooks.co.uk/product/65-

My book is going to the printers! Now nothing in the world can stop the exegesis of dubious historicity!
It is far too late too say whoa to the horse. You can pre-order here if so inclined. obversebooks.co.uk/product/65-

The cover of Black Archive #65

“Yes, well personally, I think this whole business has been carried just a little bit too far. I mean, that Helen thing was just a misunderstanding.”

The first full production of Doctor Who’s second producer, The Myth Makers (1965) plunges the series into previously unexplored territory at the edge of legend and history. It’s a story of ambition and pragmatism, the epic and the domestic, the silly and the tragic and the literary and worldly.
In this Black Archive Ian Potter delves into the archaeology and literature that informed the serial, explores the careers and characters of its prime movers, traces the programme’s development through previously unseen script drafts, examines how it may have appeared on screen and explains a handful of its jokes.CONTENTS
