The gaming world is entirely oversaturated with Marvel and DC content and I actually think they could carve out a nice niche for themselves if they focus their ambitions, and creative talents, elsewhere.

Lest I yet again be accused of thinking I could do a better job than them, I'll leave it there. Wherever you're playing OP, I hope you're having fun, you're with people who care about you, and that you stay unjaded and excited for one of the greatest TCGs ever conceived.

Heyo RB of the RDU here!

I'm currently replaying Shining Force on the Sega Genesis, interspersed with Balatro and Slay the Spire runs.

I'm watching Twin Peaks: the Return and gearing up finishing the entire series for the first time (made it to Part 8 a few years ago before my showtime trial ran out), and watching Westworld for the first time ever.

I'm slowly reading through a stack of comics including the new Absolute DC line, the Sacrificers, and Ice Cream Man, hoping to get back to my book stack which features "the Dispossessed" and "the Dogs" very soon.

I'm slowly creating a poker card based PvP fantasy brawler, while reworking my favorite CCG of all time #OverPower, for a new audience and featuring my own characters. I also am working on the story for those characters, and more music reviews for the online hardcore punk fanzine the Counterforce.

Finally, I'm literally listening to Gorillaz - 19-2000 (Soulchild Remix) as I type this, but I was blasting the Faith/Void Split LP, 7 Seconds - Skins, Brains, & Guts EP, and the new Plastika - Sijamski Blizanac LP!

And that Dracula Special is a proxy of a card developed by the Atlanta Federation (more lore deep dives imminent), with art by the GOAT, Frank Frazetta.

That was actually the first full art card I ever put together, and was stoked to learn a few things, such as how to get the Dracula text look like it was sunken into the card itself.

Phew. You still with me? I'm not sure I am! But hold onto your butts, 'cause the Australian arm of OP Playerdom added something crucially missing from this whole system. That's right, you guessed it! Decimals. Every Character card in their set has their points total printed right there in the lower left corner (ed. note: I humbly prostrate myself before you reader, and beg for forgiveness. I was actually thinking of the Hong Kong based Power Balance reboot, unaffiliated with either the Australian Power Balance or OP Legion Reboot. The lore is deep, and ever growing!). The accompanying rules sheet assigns a new total to every Character in the game, though DC and Image are notably spared from the wrath of Decimalgate. To their credit, unhinged or not, the prominent inclusion of a Character's total right there on the card is an extremely good idea, and these new totals also take into account which other tools the Characters have access to. Both of these ideas are so good that they make a reappearance in the coming LRG interpretation of the game, but that'll have to wait 'til next time, True Believers!

So, the short leap to the customs era is that Marvel, as they tend to do, got tired of publishing the game themselves. Instead of outsourcing, they decided to first print a set dedicated to their ever-popular X-men, before finally tapering off with #OverPowerCCG's one and only official Image set (how funny!) And so ends our tale, with 1999 marking the date of death on OP’s tombstone, never again to flitter across the minds or tabletops of players worldwide, right?

Wrong! You couldn't be more wrong, but the exact timelines get a little hazier and hard to follow. What I do know is that three official sets were in the pipes as they closed up shop: the Marvels, which would have expanded the Character and Special pool for the heroic side of Marvel and brought a host of interesting new mechanics to the game; Absolute Evil, doing the same for their moral opposite; and the abandoned DC Universal Forces, which would have seen DC finally getting the Location attention it deserved, plus some more obscure Characters for the True Believers.
