My bit of kindness - the AusPost contractor who enables my AliExpress habit (which I can stop whenever I want), is always on time, always friendly, polite and professional (apart from the anecdotes about previous clients who yelled at him for being too early, or too late, or delivering to the printed address instead of magically divining their work address 🤯)
So, using cardstock (which he delivered), and coated metal blanks (which he delivered), I used my laser engraver (which he delivered) to make this:

A black metal business card, laser engraved with
"DELIVERY PERSON
of the Year
CHARMHAVEN
2025"
in a folded cardboard holder. A thank you to the courier who seems to be the exception to the many, many lost or damaged parcels.

UPS emailed me to say they're about to deliver a parcel "Sat, 12th April". Or, maybe part of their system is cursed and uses middle-endian date format, which screwed-up how a different part of their system parses dates, and the parcel is due to arrive today? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Post office lady just explained to me, as if I was an idiot, that because of the tariffs that Trump has put on Australian goods sold in China, Aust Post can no longer leave cards for an unsuccessful package delivery attempt.
Further, if I don't get a card, I should download the Aust Post app, so that I'll be able to tell when my package will be delivered. 🤯🤪

I'd become used to the multiple emails from Aust Post, the fairly accurate tracking links, the SMSs on day of delivery, and the timely arrival of my local delivery person.

Now, you get NOTHING! 🤯😡

And apparently now, buying in Australia from China can't be tracked because of Trump???

I only did some enquiring after a weird AliExpress message about customs, and searching the tracking number showed the item had been sitting at the PO for days.

🎉
This laser rotary chuck looks a lot like a lathe (you know, those machines with a chuck on the left).
It's packed with the chuck on the left (like a wood lathe, which has the chuck on the left).
The docs all show the chuck to the left (like a metal lathe, which has the chuck to the left).
So I expected that it'd be used with the chuck to the left (like CNC machining stations, which have the chuck to the left).

So WHY does the video say you have to put the chuck to the RIGHT ??? 😱🤯😡

An Ortur rotary chuck attachment for a laser cutter. It is effectively a lathe, but the instruction video says it has to be used with the chuck on the right hand side, which is opposite to every other lathe of any type anywhere in the world, at any point in history.

Today's craft project. For no particular reason 😤😡

A cardboard sign in progress, telling couriers that the person who has had 5 parcels (so far) wrongly delivered to my address, does not actually live here.

Mystery solved, but not resolved 😡

Just argued with a THIRD courier who tried to deliver a parcel for the person who got their own address wrong.

Ended up telling them to try the address where she actually lives, and if it turns out to be wrong, they can leave it here, but I can show them the SMS from the location-challenged lady about parcel #2

Ooh! ! Excitement! 🎉

My first carbon wheels (and first significant $$ amount purchase) just arrived! The expected delivery date was 17th July, so I'm Very Packidge 😄😁🤪

My and I shall have fun this weekend🚴

The timing worked out really well - I waited until the special deal on the wheels was confirmed before ordering the other bits (tyres, tubes, rotors, cassette, etc.)
The other bits have been arriving, and the last pieces arrived with the wheels.

A set of carbon fibre bicycle wheels from EliteWheels, resting on their cardboard delivery box.

:pakidge: delivered 2 metres from where I was sitting and I didn't hear a thing #packidge ninjas

"Stay in control???"

Of what, exactly? How?

Tracking a packidge would have to be the absolute FURTHEST experience I have ever had, to being "in control"!

As you watch the start two suburbs away, traverse distant continents, pause briefly for several weeks, generate reams of indeterminate statuses like "beginning consolidation of leaving the area of origin", and then suddenly arrive during the 3 minutes when you had to leave the house, you don't really experience much "control"
😡

And once again I find myself in possession of a tracking number and NO CLUE as to what it is.

HWHY do I do this to myself?! ☹️

5 #packidge in flight, new record for me

Interesting use of old tech yesterday...

I went out for a coffee without my phone (on Sundays we have a no-screens day), because I could use my Apple Watch to pay for it.

While out, I remembered I had a parcel to pick up from the Australia Post parcel lockers nearby on Bourke Street. But because I had no phone, I didn't have the pick-up code.

However, I noticed an old Telstra payphone across the street. Calls from those are free within Australia nowadays, so I phoned Narrelle and got her to read me the code. I recorded it by entering as a number in the calculator on my watch!

Then I picked up the parcel. 📦

Thanks, 20th century technology. :)
