Another wash of a hobby day as the bench (and the rest of the room) looks like a tornado tore through. Have a roommate moving in, and, well, my hobby space is now her bedroom and our shared hobby space.

So in lieu of progress on the dragon, have my second #PaintABBEG from February. It's my favorite month (gee, wonder why it's my namesake), and so I chose my favorite kind of monster: aberrations! Meet the Emissary!

A strange silhouette stands against a stark white background, hovering just above snow-covered earth. It appears as a cloak wrapped around some kind of invisible, humanoid figure. From the folds of their ragged cloth bursts forth a menagerie of tentacles and horrid appendages from an indescribable kaleidoscope of otherworldly energy.

A close-up of the center of the creature's churning maelstrom. Bright magenta energy gives way to solidifying flesh, as the beaked maw of some strange animal gasps out at the cold air.

Strange, insect-like limbs of exotic blue hues reach outwards from the wild colors that swirl under the tattered fabric. A tentacle reaches out, turning from magenta to bright greens and blues before finally rubbery green skin becomes visible and a toothsome mouth screams against the chill.

Another hobby day spoiled by an ill-timed class. So I guess it's time to post pictures some of you might not have seen before. This time, it's a model I made for when I had the energy to participate in #PaintABBEG, a year-long challenge to paint a villain for each month of the year that I learned about from @Holyfireman@dice.camp in Janurary.

This is King Luksna, my first contribution to the challenge for the month of January.

A large, hunched-back troll creature. Its skin is a mix of a swampy green color along its back and a pinkish fleshy color on its belly. It looks off to the left of the frame, its jaw hanging slack, with a crude club made from a log and a large stone in its right hand. It wears various trinkets as jewelry and armor, such as a bone through its nose and a bear trap dangling from its ear by a hook. Its protruding belly is restrained with a wooden shield, presumably from a fallen foe, that is held in place with leather straps around its waist.

The cemetery dragged itself upwards onto a pair of lumpen club-feet, w/a chorus of groans united as one sound that I wish I could forget. It shook its body, like an old dog rising from sleep, freeing the bones & soil not packed into its misshapen frame. Coffins, tombstones, whole bodies, even, protruded like warts. It turned the gaping, vacuous hole in its approximation of a head from side to side before it trudged away, as if on the scent of something.

Finished this Murk Stalker Dragon from Dragon Trappers Lodge for the Paint a BBEG challenge. If you saw the WiPs you know it's come a LONG way. Very pleased with it, it's a real monster. (More photos in the replies)

I feel a little bashful having completed my #PaintABBEG for February already, but I had a lot of fun.

Meet the Emissary of Exile, an aberration that is a living portal between the mortal world and the unfathomable horror of the beyond.

To drive home the alien nature of the things crawling out of the Emissary, I used a CMY palette instead of my usual Zorn palette. Some fluorescents on top make the colors pop in person.

A figure seemingly made of naught but shadow hovers above the snowy ground. From its chest bursts forth a myriad of painfully bright and alien colors that materialize into the appendages of eldritch monstrosities.

Here's my finished #PaintABBEG for January: the giant, mean, scary troll King Luksna.

For this model, I tried something I've been thinking about for a while - Zorn palette but replacing black with Payne's Grey (a dark blue). I honestly quite like it and think I'll continue to use that palette for other projects.

A hulking monster, resembling a mix between an ogre and some kind of fish. His scaly hide is a dark green, like those of a crocodile, and his face and soft underbelly are an uncomfortable pinkish hue. In his right hand he wields a cruel, makeshift club made of a tree branch, a large, hewn stone, and assorted teeth and claws. A human femur serves as a crude nose piercing, and a rusted bear trap dangles from his ear in a laughable attempt at ear-ring. An old shield serves as a belt buckle.

As I wait for the streaking grime to dry on my January #PaintABBEG, I've started to mock up the model for February. Because it'll be my birth month, I've decided to do my favorite monster type: aberrations!

No name for this beasty, but I think it's an omen of foul things to come.
