#Paperpile

Research literature is the only area where my personal overlaps with work, though for legal reasons I have to be very mindful.

In October, I stopped paying for #Paperpile, the only SaaS I had been using privately. I'm not a consumer LLM hater, but the dev blog was a little infuriating then with the language (that "transformative impact" is a publishing deluge, go figure) and concepts (who are the peers in "AI peer review"? LLMs?).

That said, this summary is good.

"neither Mendeley nor EndNote’s App functions recognized dataset DOIs" ...which is rather astonishing, for 'in-app' #DOI look-ups. #Zotero, #Paperpile & #Sciwheel are at least at the forefront though more to be done.

I would comment that analysis of 'plugin' import of #dataset metadata into ref managers more complex to understand; highly dependent on the structured data exposed by host #repository.

It's the year 3077 and I'm still waiting for #Paperpile to have a Safari version of their web app. Just throwing this out there into the internet void!

Inspired by a recent blog post from @daedalus I started using Zotero again. Migrating from Paperpile was easy going, thanks to the brief migration guide from @maria_antoniak: maria-antoniak.github.io/2023/

Wrote about some stuff using #paperpile. Went away to do stuff. Came back to write some more about stuff. Reminded just how amazing #paperpile is (paperpile.com/)

search works great, but export formats for search results aren't nice.
provides a handy and free web-tool, you might find useful as well: paperpile.com/t/pmid-to-excel-

If you are a user of Paperpile and Obsidian and you would like to add citations to your notes - here is a workaround using the Citations plugin in Obsidian. Adapted from the way the Zotero plugin works and is a reasonable alternative. #Paperpile #Obsidian #Citation #Zettelkasten #Bibliography #Bibtex. (paperpile.com)

@vartak @harcel Paperpile plus Google docs is an absolute dream. Been using it for papers and grants years now and it just works, probably a hundred documents so far. They added a reference style including PMCIDs for NIH grants for us years ago! I recall maybe one glitch in all that time. #PaperPile #ReferenceManager
