Today’s edition #TheMothening features a special guest! This is the Angulose Prominent, #Peridea angulosa, of family #notodontidae #moths. I see a resemblence in the face of this moth, with the Bark Lynx Spider, #Hamataliwa grisea. Is this actual mimicry?

A view of the top of the Angulose Prominent moth. This is a triangular, arrowhead shaped moth with many hair-like scales on the front legs and head giving it a furry appearance. It is a light brown shade, marked with lighter and darker wavy lines. There is a dark circular line near the head.

A front view of the moth showcasing the “furry” legs and head region. From this view the dark circular markings on the “head” of the moth and a second darker area a few mm underneath, give the moth an appearance not unlike that of the Bark Lynx spider.

'A photo of the front of the Bark Lynx Spider, a small spider that somewhat resembles the jumping spiders. It is varying shades of grayish brown. Its head features a row of eyes clustered around the front hemisphere, a dark mouth-like line beneath, and 2 large pedipalps beneath. This spider has an overall furry appearance with large dark spine like hairs dotting its surface.
