The #PineNote arrived early! And of course I already installed Arch on it.
It's everything I hoped for. Looks elegent, light, perfect size, display refreshes really fast (when configured correctly), excellent for reading manga, and handwriting works well. Probably not quite as responsive as the Remarkable but more importantly it has zero vendor lock-in.
Software is definitely only for Linux enthusiasts, needs tinkering and not stable enough mass markets, but it works better than I expected!
After ~40 million years of wanting a decently sized eink device with pen and constantly being disappointed that all that's on the market has some weird locked down Android OS and/or is tied to the vendor's cloud services, I finally ordered a #PineNote, an open source eink tablet.
Had been following the project for a while but it was always in early development and/or sold out. Seems to be somewhat ready now and even includes a pen! Can't wait to install Arch on it and run Doom :P

I'm really enjoying this blackberry-style keyboard + trackpad for typing on my #pineNote. It beats the on-screen keyboard by a mile whenever I have to open a terminal or enter a password, and it's so small I can take it with me wherever my PN goes.
Thank you @pluralistic for making your ebooks DRM-free, making it an easy choice to purchase to put onto my #PineNote e-ink tablet for reading.
With the v25.12 release of postmarketos, the Pinenote support is in a pretty good place. Although the device isn't in community yet, I backport fixes from edge so you don't have to. I've packaged hrdl's sway config under device-pine64-pinenote-sway-hrdl for those wanting an opinionated setup right away. I'll be working on optimising existing postmarketos UIs for eink displays in preparation for v26.06.

And it's even possible to get it without supporting the antithesis of all that is good on the internet:

using a #remarkable2 or #PineNote you can even write in your answers. multiple times!
(Please don't support amazon, if you need a reason @pluralistic also has a new book out)
Hmm.
I have an old note: "The Supernote Nomad is basically a #PineNote. Will it work?".
I have no clue when I wrote this. But.. yeh, will it?
I guess I'll have to find out at some point.
Tuesday evening project: trying out the new #Arch Linux image for the #PineNote to try to build a distraction-free computing environment. Thesis: if it takes an hour to connect to wi-fi and another hour to connect it to a Bluetooth keyboard, I probably won’t use it to waste time scrolling. But I might use it to waste time formalizing math from a textbook!
@pine64 @danct12 @hadrianweb @pastelsolitude @genode @Logical_Error This is my first time hearing about QuillOS for the #PineNote . Where can I find more info an that?
Jesus, the #PineNote is 610 local currency! https://pine64eu.com/product/pinenote-community-edition/ Maybe a used unlockable e-reader?
Boo❗ 👻

Community member hrdl has released an Arch based image which includes their new display driver. Overall responsiveness has significantly increased since the last demo. The setup uses a sway config that allows brightness and display modes to be changed quickly.
PineNote users can find the image and instructions at their sourcehut repo

@Natanox that is perfectly possible. However, about 1.5 weeks later, I printed a #PineNote case with it. The fillament was not dried in between, and the print itself went also fine (still no stringing). Sadly, it turned out that TPU is not a suitable material for the design (overhanging edges support caused troubles). But I still have to develop a feeling for the hygroscopic props of the materials.
