Dark foreboding clouds loom in the distance over the buildings and the deep grey tones of the image add to the gritty back-alley mood of the image. The mural of the skull and death figure are rendered in a realistic but cartoony style which helps the image from feeling too morose… and perhaps reminds us to enjoy being ‘in the moment’ now, for we never truly know what the future may bring. 💀

A photograph of a San Francisco street scene and graffiti mural featuring a big frosty the snowman character with black hat and carrot nose. His lack stick arms are holding a paint roller with light blue paint on it and it looks like he is trying to paint over the other artwork. The background is a deep blue and purple and there are other very color graffiti art/lettering on either side. Over the top of the wall mural we see the top of a white building with two small windows on either side that make it look like a face peeking over the fence at what is happening. Lots of layers of personality happening here. As far as the overall composition, there are some wires coming in diagonally from the top right corner and an angled roof in the left side that subtly help direct our view back to the main character the snowman. At the bottom on the left is some graffiti tags that possibly reads “NEWS RAW” and I like to pretend this is a caption to the scene… this is your correspondent Frosty with Raw News, coming to you from the streets of San Francisco. An urban scene taken along Mission Street in San Francisco during Doc Pop’s PixelWalk photo meetup. We are looking at the intersection of two neighboring buildings, and more specifically a graffiti art piece painted on the concrete—what looks like a blue stylized cartoony head/face with white beady eyes and a closed mouth without a smile or frown 😐 (and also vaguely resembles a fire hydrant) on a green and white background with a prominent tag that possibly reads “POKMEY” (with a few other smaller tags added in around/under the artwork). The buildings have an old-world charm to them, with wooden doors to the right that feature an intricate metal latticework weaved between the beams; on the right is a white-painted textured building with some well-worn retractable metal grates closed over the entrance. In between the buildings if you zoom in closely, there are smalll tags and artworks on each individual brick, with the overall effect looking a bit like the spines of books stacked in a library. Lots of texture (my favorite) and character abound.

Photo showing part of a tiger mural taken during the PixelWalk photo meetup in a San Francisco Mission District Alley. We see a closeup of the tiger’s face with a beautifully realistically rendered tiger eye. The stripes and other face parts are done in a more simple line-art style but have vivid color wash painted over them with the net effect that it looks like the tiger is multi-color orange turquoise purple and blue gradients fading into each other. The eye is on a white stripe across the face which included the graffiti tag “crase” and a wall vent into the building. I am transfixed by the yellow tiger eye. It looks so realistic and glossy especially compared to the rest of the artwork. Gorgeous.

A complex tangle of flowering prickly pear cacti and succulent plants set against the pale yellow siding of a San Francisco home. The top half of the photo is blank sky with only a few metal vent pipes and the tops of the plants/tree interrupting slightly. The succulents are quite lovely, all different deep shades of green, and there is a purple-flowered tree behind, that blends in adding more subtle color. The cacti fruits are brilliant reds and yellow colors bursting forth from the pads. Devine.

A photo taken on Doc Pop’s recent #PixelWalk Fediverse meetup. We are looking up at the upper story of a dilapidated storefront off Mission Street in San Francisco. There are random bits of graffiti and urban decay along the buildings and a striking, brilliant blue sky with puffy white clouds contrasting overhead. The brilliant red awning has the inspiring words “A BETTER WORLD IS POSSIBLE” stenciled across the front along with some geometric decorations and a representation of the Golden Gate Bridge that almost looks like lips puckered up to kiss us. I believe you awning, I really do… let’s make it happen!

A view of an alleyway in the Mission. The narrow street is lined on the left with three-story buildings covered in brightly colored street art. On the right, there is an empty lot, a chain link fence, some sneakers hanging from an overhead wire, and a blue colored building with a goose in an upper story window.

The wide angle lens that I used makes the alley feel longer than it actually is and creates a nice effect: long lines of buildings and curbs leading off into the distance, converging at a far point.

Five garbage cans stand like cows at a feeding trough, backs towards the camera. With their bins filled to the top and lids partially open, the cans face a graffiti-filled wall tagged with the names of street artists and miscreants...

A monochrome picture taken from the sidewalk, looking up at the iconic Sketchers sign that towers above Mission Street. Actually, this is four pictures taken a few seconds apart, stacked on top of each other and merged in post.

It looked like a good setting to try this variation of a very familiar place . The scene has 3 story, somewhat grim-looking brick and stucco buildings... a tall sign mounted to equally tall scaffolding... the ever-present birds of the Mission District... and gray skies, hours before started raining. The overall effect is noir.

A very fun photo of an adorable pink pig with green boots statue standing in front of two red-topped mushroom plushies. The photo was taken into a storefront window, showing the insides of the store but also reflections from across the street—making the scene almost psychedelic-looking. Everywhere you look it’s filled with all sorts of fantastical objects green mossy grass? A bicycle cart filled with blue flowers, green hedges with big pink roses, multi-colored beaded curtains, and in the background some tall San Francisco-style multi-story residences and shops with palm trees and blue skies with big puffy white clouds. It’s a visual kaleidoscope of colors and themes. It makes me very happy. This was taken on Doc Pop’s recent #pixelwalk in the Mission District of San Francisco on March 1, 1025.

"Ward, I'm worried about the Beaver."

A picture of street-art... a brightly colored mural with a dark theme. The central subject is a skeletal depiction of a 1950s housewife, in a frock dress and apron, with her boney arms crossed in front of her. Looking very much like Barbara Billingsley, who played June Cleaver in the American sitcom Leave It To Beaver, the boney skeleton appears to be very concerned.

She is flanked by brightly colored tags - name scrawls - from the artist.
