#PyConIT

This year #pyconit has been a amazing, and it has been incredible to see the conference reach 1000 participants.

Last year #europython did 1450 participants, and the Italian conference is getting very close in size.

Proof that conference food matters 🤣

One thing to take home from . PyScript (Python in the browser) keeps getting better and there's

pyscript.com/

where you can host your scripts to be able to quickly run them on anything that has a semi current Browser.

(No need to use it, pyscript.net/ also exists, but it makes it easier to get started with PyScript)

@andreagrandi Writing this from the hotel lobby: Maybe the habit of posting while the conference is going on in general has decreased .

Personally, I was way too busy to attend talks and talk to people that posting from here (or following what happened on mastodon) wasn't doable. Most of the action was on the official Discord.

I did mention to some of the sponsors (that only had ExTwitterInstaLinkedIn, that adding Mastodon and Bluesky would be a good idea)

Are social networks dead for conferences?

I’ve just been to PyCon Italia and here on Mastodon there have been an average of 2,4 post/day. I counted only 5-6 different people (out of 1000 attendees).

I also checked Bluesky and Instagram.

What am I missing?

This morning I had the pleasure and the honour to introduce my dear friend and former colleague Nicholas Tollervey keynote (which was so much fun and inspiring 🤩)

@rzeta0 it’s a pleasure, but just like #PyConIT one person wasn’t significant. The important thing that made #pycon happen, and spread across the world, was communities getting behind the idea and making it happen. If that taught tag the Python community anything it was “the community knows better than anyone else what it wants.” I spent three years chairing and about seven years as a concerned parent, by which time it was obvious I could leave it to others to carry the banner.

First time at #PyConIT for me, and it’s been great — from the quality of the talks to the event organization, not to mention the amazing location. It definitely won’t be the last. See you next year!

Django's 20 year birthday was celebrated in style at #PyConIT: A cake with fireworks and two fantastic musicians playing Django Reinhardt covers.

Great Django community here, and possible to make a schedule from the program that's 100% relevant to a Django dev.

The @huggingface talk at #PyConIT is fun, but I suspect it means that organisations are about to be overwhelmed by LLM-created shadow IT.

Scariest quote:”My software crashed with a stack trace, but that doesn’t matter.”

Supertab, the company I work for, is hiring another senior backend developer.

The position is fully remote. If you are at Pycon Italia, ping me for a chat! laterpay.jobs.personio.de/job/

I cannot be at in Bologna this year which is a crying shame; my coping strategy is making pasta fresca with ragĂą alla bolognese for the family.
