I was surprised to learn heat-sensitive pits evolved four independent times in boas. (And the heat sensitive pits of vipers and pythons are two more independent evolutions of heat sensitive pits, but I already knew about those. )

Here are some other animals that I also have had the pleasure of keeping.
I got my first pet snake when I was 12 years old, a garter snake that I named Henry. For about 25 years after that, I kept and bred many species of reptiles, and among them, a pair of Borneo Short-tailed Pythons. They produced offspring twice, one of which is pictured here. The second picture shows their mother.
I don't keep snakes currently, as I prefer to focus on keeping arachnids now, and mainly tarantulas, but I did enjoy keeping snakes and other reptiles for so many years. It's an exciting and fun hobby that I can recommend for those who have to time and space to do so.

Raccoons are mostly on the beach sites. Never seen them on/near chickees. They are after both food and fresh water.
Wildlife researchers say 90+% of the small mammals in the #Everglades are gone due to the #pythons! I don’t think this applies to the beach raccoons tho.
Lane Bay is a great place to camp!
Just to be clear: #Hobie still sells the “Revolution 13” #kayak model. Drive is much improved. I recommend anyone who is considering buying one to “downgrade” to the standard drive (does not have reverse). The reversible drive costs more, adds little value, and has many small moving parts that are impossible to maintain in the field.
Two #pythons were abandoned in rural areas of #Devon SW #England (they are not native to this country). Both have been recovered to a local zoo (one was even previously rescued from the roadside by a motorist, who took it home with him to look after before calling the zoo!) #snakes

10 years ago today we got this baby. My son came with me to see it. He was 3 at the time. I asked if we should get it and he said yeah, so we did. Guy selling it also had pythons for sale. But the kid said no to them. They were smart decisions.
