Received my #RadExpansionUnit from restore-store.de today and already soldered the few parts which were not SMD. Now all I need is a #RaspberryPi Zero 2 W which does not costs an arm and a leg and I will be ready to play Doom on my #c64. 🤪

A blue PCB and a few parts (2 switches, a jumper header, a jumper and the thing the GPIO port of the Raspberry Pi 2 W will plug into) next to 2 mini bags of Haribo on an invoice with the logo of the Restore Store

Doom on Commodore 64? Several attempts were made by the demo scene to create a Doom-like experience on the C64. Some are for the unmodified C64, some for the extended C64 with SuperCPU. Some use the additional CPU power of a C128.

The open source cartridge "RAD Expansion Unit" emulates a Commodore REU (RAM Expansion Unit) or GeoRAM while connected to a real C64 or C128. I was able to solder it with a classic soldering iron although it contains SMD parts.

As RAD is a software-defined cartridge based on a Raspberry Pi, other use cases are also entirely possible such as: youtu.be/C--TlxjOwLs

RAD Expansion Unit: it emulates a "REU" with up to 16MB (compatible to CBM 1700/1750/1764 REU,CLD Super 1750 Clone,CMD 1750/1750XL) and a Geo/NeoRAM memory expansion up to 4mb.
Eine Erweiterung die eine „REU“ mit bis zu 16MB (kompatibel m. CBM 1700/1750/1764 REU,CLD Super CPU Clone,CMD 1750/1750XL) und eine Geo/NeoRAM Erweiterung bis zu 4MB emuliert.
