Why can't modern UI designers design buttons that LOOK like actual buttons?
So my mother, is presently studying the #RSCDS courses for doing teaching, as there is a shortage of teachers in the Queensland branch.
The exams, use the Microsoft Office365 system. Not my preference, but fine… it just needs a web browser. The laptop here is a Lenovo B590 running Windows 7 … not new, but it's functioning.
She commented she couldn't go back to the previous sections of the exam, only forwards. Sounded like a very draconian limitation … but others could? Oookay, is Firefox too old? Maybe we need to consider an OS update.
I downloaded Debian yesterday just in case (Ubuntu doesn't fit on 4.7GiB DVD-Rs anymore). Had a look today… this is how the UI Geniuses at Microsoft designed the Back/Next buttons. (a rough re-creation)
The next button is obvious, but the back button just looks like plain unclickable text. No wonder it was missed!
Even Windows 1.0 had more obvious looking buttons than this! #UI #UX #Rant
