Right now, workers are trapped in poverty wages — this bill would lift pay nationwide and give workers the power they deserve. But by 2030, a $17 minimum wage will seem paltry, especially considering what appears to be an impending recession.

I don't get the argument that employers can't afford to pay $15/hr. That's the value of labor. If I can't afford a Porsche, then I can't get a Porsche. I don't get to demand a discount on Porsches. If a business can't afford labor, that's on *the business,* not the labor market.

One argument I hear about raising the minumum wage is that a lot of small businesses will fail. Now, I'm sympathetic to this to a point. These businesses are run by people who struggled and worked hard in order to create something so they could be their own boss. It's a dream they pursue and it's something I can appreciate.

However, if they need employees for their dream to work, but don't offer a living wage, then their dream depends on others suffering. The hard-to-swallow pill is that if you can't offer a living wage, your business is not profitable enough. Your product is sub par, your marketing is terrible, or you're in an already saturated market. You don't offer anything that people can't get elsewhere that offers more value.

Why should the rest of society suffer so you can live your dream of running an unprofitable business? This isn't to say you need to give up on your dream, but to innovate, problem solve, or improve your product. It's your dream, fight for it. But, you will never have the moral high ground if in order for it to happen, others can't live theirs.
