🇬🇧 The Rapid Security Response update for macOS broke compatibility with OpenCore Legacy Patcher

My friend's old MacBook Air was given a new life by OpenCore Legacy Patcher, but it was broken by the Rapid Security Response update. Here's how I fixed it.

If it's true that Apple has halted the rollout of a Rapid Security Response update because it adds (a) to the end of Safari’s User-Agent string and major sites like Facebook/Instagram are breaking because they do (bad) user agent sniffing, that is really ridiculous.

(a quick test of changing the User-Agent string fixes a page I tried on Instagram, so it seems that way)

But surely Apple wouldn't pull a security update just because of poorly designed sites?

I’ve updated to iOS Security Response 16.4.1 (a). It was super quick to download and install. I’ve never seen an update like this, but apparently it’s new! forbes.com/sites/davidphelan/2

It's not an industry-first for a patch mechanism like to fire without having a CVE on hand.

Take for example Microsoft's CVE-2021-1647 which describes an RCE in Defender that had a patch made available in November 2020 (learn.microsoft.com/en-us/micr) while the actual CVE publication, vulnerability and exploit PoC were not available until January 12, 2021 (msrc.microsoft.com/update-guid)

Balancing threat response speed and disclosure of its full impact requires careful thought.
