Aesica (modern name Great Chesters) was the 9th fort on Hadrian’s Wall. Its main purpose was to guard the Caw Gap. It is believed that the fort was completed in the year 128 AD. It was rectangular in plan with towers at each corner and relatively small, only 3 acres (12,000 m2). #RomanFortThursday
