I'm excited for this move for several reasons:
1. Once it's done, @jrenken then can start working on other Sandwich projects. As the person who is also the Sandwich project manager, this pleases me greatly.
2. We'll be able to start writing actual documentation for folks who want to run their own Mastodon servers using open source tools!
3. Being on our own server means more customization!
I'm starting to get a feel for more of what I'll be focusing on regarding my original posts to this account. I like the idea of posting BC-focused original content here, with pan-Canadian things being posted on my other account at @trishalynn@mastodon.sandwich.net. And #SOSSBC stuff here, always.
BTW, when I read the hashtag, I think "sauce book" and I can't get that out of my head now.

We welcomed @trishalynn as our new Vice President on the Board. She brings a wealth of experience that will help us immensely. Thank you so much Trisha Lynn!!
We also heard from @jrenken as things progress for our BC hosted (and kindly donated!) server space. He's working hard on documentation and ensuring it will be robust and ready to roll as we leave our @mastohost shared space in the next couple months.

As per previous Agenda: We've modified our Bylaws and Constitution to ensure elected officials and officers of for-profit corporations are deemed “non-voting members" and are not eligible to be on the #SOSSBC Board.
We thought this was important to avoid any potential conflicts of interests and inappropriate influence.

Another Big First!
Our first official deposit into the SOSSBC account!

Today, we completed setting up our #nonprofit society's bank account at #VanCity 😊
This was also the first time that we all met face to face ✌️
Today is a big day! The Society of Open Social Servers of British Columbia (#SOSSBC) will be opening its own bank account 🏦 and — bonus — @arbutus and @PhotographyElf and I will be meeting in person for the first time! Imagine that! Meeting #opensocialweb people IRL?? 😃
This all means we will be able to officially start soliciting funds to go towards launch and hopefully the sustainable operation of https://socialbc.ca as it opens user registration in January! 🙌
