The finished piece after sandblasting. The contact paper has been removed, and the butterfly shape remains and is shiny and sparkly, along with the corners. The rest is a pretty matte green where the sandblaster hit.

Then lots and lots of careful cutting of contact paper, and getting it onto the glass.

The green sheet of glass from the last post, now covered with the contact paper butterfly. I also taped off the corners. The covered bits will stay shiny, the rest will be sandblasted.

Sandblasting was fun and easier than I'd anticipated. Would love to do this again with different types of glass.

Started with this (thank you Sketchbook mirror function so I only had to draw half a butterfly.)

A fired 6 by 6 inch glass plate - it's olive green with rainbow iridescence, and very sparkly.

A black and white sketch of a butterfly. Thanks to Sketchbook on my iPad, I only had to draw one half and the mirror function took care of the other side, so it's actually symmetrical.
