For #FensterFreitag it's a window spotted amongst the medieval buildings and narrow streets of Santillana Del Mar in northern Spain last year.

We're looking at a stone wall where it joins another one at ninety degrees on the right of view, only just visible at the edge. The stones are rough, some large brick-shaped, others more organic to fill in gaps, and they're all warm tones of yellows and beiges. The mortar between the stones is pale and thick in places to fill in the larger spaces where the stones don't quite fit. In the centre of the view as we look at it, although it's not quite central to the wall itself, there is a small, square window with thick lintel around its edge. The window frame is matt black and it holds a window of nine small, square panes of glass, opened outwards and swinging to the right where it nearly touches the other wall there. Sat in the window and almost filling the area is a small plant in a terracotta pot, with bushy green leaves and a bright red flower atop. Beneath the window there is a faded sign on a dirty white background with black trim, and letters in a gothic script that spell out the word "Habitaciones", in black except for the most-faded first letter which is red.

For #FensterFreitag here's a window from a street in Santillana del Mar in northern Spain which we visited a few months ago. The place is known as the Town of Three Lies because its name in Spanish suggests it is a saint, it is flat, and it's by the sea when it's actually not a saint, it's very hilly, and it's inland. A case of the name evolving over time.

We're close to a wall built from large stone blocks, sandstone-coloured and dirty in places, showing signs of age and wear. There is a small window in the centre of the wall; rectangular and split down the middle with each side further split into four panes in the middle with wooden blocks over the top and bottom. The window is dark wooden-framed, old, and rotting in places and the glass in the panes look to be caked in dust giving them a ghostly, cobweb-like sheen. At the bottom of the shallow window sill there are three small terracotta plant pots spaced evenly but whatever plants they once held have turned to dry, black stalks and sharp twists of dead matter now with some hanging below the window area. A few tiny buds of green show where something tries to cling to life here. The whole window is covered with an iron grate of nine vertical bars and emerging from the top of that in the centre is a thin iron cross with elaborate loops extending from the arms. The iron is deeply rusted and some of that rust appears to have stained parts of the sandstone wall where it touches. There's a sense that this is a long-abandoned place.
