Whenever I want to just stomp the CPU for 20 minutes, she's always there, ready to go, with amazing frames of animation to photograph, too.

I forgot to select her darker blue colorway, though. Oops.

In an abandoned subway, Chun-Li roars through the air like a dragon, single-mindedly focused on delivering a fist to the top of Alex's noggin. Fury fills her face, a fury that can only be sated by the pleasing pop of a man's skull.

On a busy shipping dock at mid-day, Chun-Li spars with Sean, incorporating Tai Chi forms into the bespoke ass-whooping she's prepared for the young man.

In the humid hum of Hong Kong, Chun-Li disrespects young fighter Yun with a stiff backhand. His brother Yang watches from the sidelines, seething with anger as a crazed cop brutalizes his kin.

Deep into her roaring rampage, Chun-Li launches Hugo into the air with a powerful kick. Her trunk-like, muscled leg explodes with power, felling her mountainous foe.

Brothers from separate mothers Jowy and Riou, having been betrayed by their captain in a political plot they do not as of yet understand, make a pact to return here, where they've marked X as the spot, in the future, should they become separated in their frantic escape. Unfathomable destiny guides their blades, and their hearts.

Having been separated and then both individually captured by a scrappy mercenary group, Riou and Jowy wordlessly engineer escape over supper.

Escaped from the mercenaries and on the lam, Jowy and Riou meet their first of many comrades to come. Rina, Eilie and Bolgan, a family of traveling msytical performers rope Riou into being the star of a knife-throwing demonstration-- only for his youthful impatience to comically derail the show and lead to his own injury.

Riou returns to his childhood home of Kyaro Town and is reunited with his sister Nanami who, with characteristic boisterousness, grabs him in an embrace so fierce they leave the ground and hover momentarily, blissful, as if made buoyant by the raw power of their sibling camaraderie.

Mighty strongman Karnov, faced with a bemused fishman, hurls himself at the slippery foe, grunting and belching out three full fireballs in a ferocious all-out attack.

Karnov, fresh off of his exhilarating fishman battle, tries his luck against a tyrannosaur, a much more capable opponent. Being unfamiliar with the tyrannosaur's game, he gets owned, and in being so owned, becomes blue.

Fungal Warrior Toad trods upon the burning desert sand in the shadow an ancient pyramid, carrying a dead, murdered snake above his head as a terrifying warning to his enemies.

In a frozen hellscape, Luigi gets owned by a sentient snow ball. Damn, man. It's just sad.

A demonic humanoid mech lurks in shadow. Titular hero Bari-Arm prepares to enact its revenge.

Speeding through a Gundam-esque space colony, Bari-Arm, in humanoid mecha mode, chases and battles a larger humanoid android. Exploding ordnance fills the sky in an orgy of violence.

Bari-Arm comes face to face with a gigantic enemy mechadragon. A laser gun reaches out from the mechadragon's throat, threatening to erase our machine hero.

In plane form, Bari-Arm swerves away from the chomping jaws of a gigantic bio-mechanical dragon monstrosity. Beautiful blue waves, unmoved by the violence, stretch out endlessly beyond the drama.

Karate master Hitomi, clad in battle denim, invigorated with the hot blood of combat, winds up for a charging punch. Her opponent Kasumi recoils, stunned by the fierce barrage of blows.

Having weathered the battering, Kasumi turns the tables on Hitomi, throwing her to the dirt. Fall leaves float on the wind and crunch underneath the awesome lady violence.

The crisp Fall air is disturbed by Hitomi lifting opponent Kasumi clean off the ground with a thunderous uppercut.

The two deadly women square off, eyeing each-other with the intensity of hunting lionesses. Autumn paints the encounter with a master's hand.

Of the four classic-styled Castlevanias I played for #scanlinesunday this spooky season, this one was significantly less enjoyable than the other three. Just too difficult.

Heroic Simon Belmont, muscled thighs bared as God intended, faces off with the legendary Gorgon Medusa, cracking his Vampire Killer whip as she steps to him. As is customary, her titties are out, but Simon shows extraordinary bravery in not succumbing to titty terror.

In a spooky dark science lab filled with macabre implements, Simon battles a Frankenstein the height of two full men. Electricity crackles around the monster as it lumbers to life.

Death, the Grim Reaper himself, suffers the bite of Simon Belmont's Vampire Killer whip.

Simon reaches the throne room of Castlevania and prepares to confront the Prince of Darkness. Dracula, however, is unaware of the beefy barbarian, seemingly lost in a wine glass of blood, perhaps reminiscing about times long past. His heart just doesn't seem in it, this time.

Despite being a Sega kid, I missed this entirely and didn't play it until much later.

The soundtrack BANGS and is probably its stand-out feature.

John Morris battles a massive moth monster, almost beautiful in its grotesquerie. Its revolting discarded cocoon rests between two archways nearby.

Against a chilling blood-red moon, John Morris whip strikes Death himself, grim scythe clutched in skeletal hand.

Dracula, the Prince of Darkness, summons a mess of damnable bats to do his bidding. His demonic countenance strikes fear into the hearts of even the bravest adventurer.

Finally played this all the way through for the first time, and.. It's Pretty Good! Another solid 16-bit Castlevania from the Konami heyday.

Richter Belmont, a slightly more anime, bandanna-wearing Belmont Clan hero, leaps through the air, hair flapping, whip cracking, as he battles Death himself, here in more of a hands-on martial combat mode. His deadly scythe blade is longer than even the longest man and he has taken up command of a cursed pirate ship for some reason.

Frankenstein's Monster, two men tall, staggers and reaches out for Richter. Does he intend violence, or does he just want a hug? That will be up to you to decide, dear reader.

The Dark Priest Shaft, floating about like a formless specter, commands an undead skeletal dragon to attack our hero Richter. Its flame belches miss our agile protagonist, thankfully.

The Prince of Evil Dracula has been defeated and crumples down to one knee. Richter gets in his face to rub it in.

I don't have any nostalgia for this one because I didn't have a SNES as a kid.

Whip feels real good.

Only real complaint is that the game's a bit long for my taste.

Simon Belmont, expert vampire hunter and heir to the Belmont Clan "Vampire Killer" whip, rushes towards Dracula's castle pursued by a mess of damnable bats, fist clenched. His thighs, sweat-caked and tan, ripple outrageously. His whole body is a throbbing mass of man muscle. Yowza. I'd like to catch a ride on that.

An Egyptian-style mummy shambles towards Simon, barely presenting any threat at all. Simon strikes it down with his fully-upgraded chain whip.

Leaping through the air, whip-cracking, Simon Belmont does battle with Death himself in front of a lovely set of rose-embroidered drapes. The Grim Reaper has a keen eye for home decor.

Dracula, Prince of Darkness, having been bested by the vampire hunting hunk Simon Belmont, turns to face the morning sun and be vanquished back to Hell once more. Immediately he begins plotting his revenge on the accursed Belmont clan.

The G-130 Grasshopper aggressively attacks a spinning battle platform high above the bomb-scarred countryside.

The G-130 Grasshopper, dwarfed by an enormous flying battleship, desperately unloads ammunition into its many gun turrets and vulnerable edifices. The ground below is rendered unseen by the massive ship's bullet-ridden hull.

In a turbulent thunderstorm, the G-130 Grasshopper follows closely behind an enemy stealth bomber, pelting it with a stream of gunfire.

Happy Birthday, Super Merry-Oh!

Mario, the pint-sized plumber, working class folk hero, dashes hurriedly across a perilous bridge with the horrible King Koopa breathing down his neck.

Mario, having just plucked and eaten(?) an infamous Fire Flower, tests his new pyrotechnic abilities by popping a massive flaming booger from his schnoz and flinging it like a tomahawk.

Super Mario deftly dodges under the whirling hammers of an erratic Hammer Brother. The black void is all consuming.

Super Mario, empowered by a Super Star, mows through benign turtles with mad glee. "200", their desecrated shells cry. "200", Mario hears in his stress-induced nightmares.

A quarter-munching fantasy beat 'em up from Taito for #scanlinesunday.

Aside from some impressive boss graphics, there's not a whole lot that stands out about this one. A relic from the shortly-lived heyday of the arcade beat 'em up.

Cisty the Elf performs her magic attack, summoning localized tornadoes to blow away an impressively-rendered giant snake boss. Her breasts flap in the wind to attract the male gaze. A lecherous fishman gets his jollies, unaware that the snake will shortly eat him to restore its health.

Gren the Wanderer, who is definitely not inspired by Guts from Berserk, kneels down and summons magic fire from his blade as three beefy knights bear down upon him with ill intent. Their shit is about to be rocked.

On a thick blanket of human skeletons, Vold the wizard furiously reads from a grimoire while a Quelaag-esque spider-woman eyes him as her next snack.

Generic Protagonist Ash the knight brings his magic-empowered sword down on the final boss, a garishly-colored demon knight. A tiling skull texture warps in the background.

Lost some CRT time due to electrical problems, so for this #scanlinesunday I broke the "Break In-Case of Emergency" glass and pulled out a Metal Slug.

Astounding pixel art, incredible animation. Slowdown for days.

Protagonist Eri pilots a camel, using its side-mounted machine gun to turn enemy troops into bloody shredded wheat. Their mouths contort hideously as their final cries escape. A tank pops its head above a sand dune, quizzically. The camel is extremely chill.

Zooming through the forest like Konami's Rocket Knight, Eri effortlessly roasts nazi-coded baddies with her trusty pump action.

In the slime-slick rectal cavity of the alien mother ship, the captured Eri floats in a goo-filled membrane, looking rather peaceful despite her predicament. Green-skinned, mass-produced mutant clones swarm, insect-like.

Mission Over! Eri sits on the edge of an inflatable raft, looking rather sheepish, while Fio tosses her service revolver into the sea.

Valkyrie Profile

For #scanlinesunday I have begun playing Valkyrie Profile and, wow.. Gorgeous game!!

I'm still in the tutorial and can't say much about the story or mechanics yet, but it's certainly a looker.

Lenneth Valkyrie, battle-maiden, goddess of fate, effortlessly soars above drab Midgard in her search for Einherjar to fight alongside the Aesir in Ragnarok.

Arngrim, rebellious master of combat, watches over the sleeping Jelanda, feeling a new responsibility for the petulant princess.

In stunning portrait art, Lenneth glowers impatiently. Her ornate armor is glorious, her countenance fair.

Lenneth, assisted by fellow Aesir Freya, leads Angrim and Jelanda in the game's battle mode. Angrim's massive sword, more a slab of iron, balances on his shoulder. His piercing gaze portents violence.

The thrilling conclusion of Snatcher (Sega CD, 1995, Konami) for #scanlinesunday!

IMHO Act 3 is the weakest third of the game.. An obnoxious shooting segment followed by a lengthy Kojima expository cut-scene. As ever, it's more about the friends we made along the way.

Against an abstract gradient, Gillian Seed glances to the side with all the grim suspicion one would expect from a cyberpunk noir protagonist.

Gillian and robot companion Metal Gear are rescued from a sabotaged runaway turbo-cycle by mysterious bounty hunter Random Hajile in an exciting action sequence. The sense of speed and danger is perfectly captured by stunning pixel art.

Shortly after Random suicide bombs a group of Snatchers so that Gillian can escape, he explores a dark air duct lit only by Metal Gear's head lamp.

A retired snatcher slumps over the wheel of an unlicensed taxi after Gillian blasts its brain case with his Junker issue sidearm. The snatcher is rendered in cool blue and green hues, contrasting with the warm earth tones of Gillian's face and trench coat. Man has triumphed over machine once again.
