Here's a loosely organized document of recommendations on #pin manufactuers, both within North America and Overseas. Generally, overseas producers are very high quality and should not cause concern, but there have been cases in the past where art theft occurred.

Unfortunately there is not really a solid "DIY" option outside of using an acrylic mold with lead-free solder; as for the pressed metal options, I am not aware of any or specifically machines that a home user could buy... not really a small thing.
