Three weeks later and I’m still wondering why they had to put a sign that says no digging graves. #SpainIsDifferent

Camino Olvidado Etapa 6 (12A). Cistierna a Boñar. 28,52 km.

My last day on the Olvidado wasn’t the best.
There was some beautiful scenery, the Puente de Mercadillos, some nice churches…but I lost my sunglasses, no tostada at the only bar in town open when I left and no coffee along the way, a busy secondary road, and being attacked by flies for a good portion of the hike.

Tomorrow starts a new adventure on a new mountain route linking the Olvidado with the San Salvador, el Camino Allerano. I’m a nervous wreck!

Camino Olvidado Etapa 5. Puente Almuhey-Cistierna. 24’93 km.

Another fantastic day of a mountain Camino with a 500 slow and steady climb. Friendly dogs, a random sheep farmer telling me the evils of rich politicians and why we should all Camino, and while there were no services, the town hostal has good food.

It’s a sunny day.

Camino Olvidado Etapa 2: Cervera de Pisguera a Santiabañez de la Peña. 28.4 km.

Not as spectacular as my first day, but a beautiful day nonetheless. Mountain rural paths and pueblos that are a time capsule.

The heat of the last hour made me sluggish. 30C on 1 Oct in the Montaña Palatina.

Tomorrow a shorter day. Then cooler temps.

Sunrise from a mountain clearing.A rural Spanish village with a church and a few houses on a sunny day.A selfie of me (41 year old cis white gay male) in hiker geat in front of a gravel path and grey stone mountains on a day without a cloud in the sky.A gravel path cuts through grass to a town with grey stone mountains in the distance on a clear day. The picture does not reveal how hot it is.

Etapa 11. Monasterio de Rodilla a Burgos. Gronze: 24 km Apple: 29 Km.

I was not expecting such a fantastic end to the Vía de Bayona/Camino Vasco, nor for so much of it to be on an ancient Roman road dating back 2000 years.

I then took a detour along the river instead of all the city streets of Burgos.

A fantastic end to a surprising Camino.

Tomorrow rest/travel day.

Issues uploading photos sorry.

A gravel path snakes up a hill at sunrise on a clear day.A selfie of me (41 year old cis white gay male) in front of a Roman road and the gravel road used on the Camino Vasco—Vía de Bayona. Sky has some clouds but is pretty blue. The Cathedral of Burgos, a massive church, on a clear evening.

Etapa 9. Pancorbo a Briviesca. Gronze says 23,2 km. Apple says 29.

Not the best scenery, and most of it on secondary roads along the AP1 autopista (toll highway). Maybe that’s how I missed an arrow and ended up making my own Camino for about an hour 🙃

Briviesca is a cute typical pueblo de Burgos.

Found an off piste track for tomorrow to avoid the N1 to Monasterio de Rodilla.

The sun is coming up over mountains and a gravel path next to train tracks.A selfie of me (41 year old cis white gay male) in hiker gear in front of a green field I sorta just made my own path on as I got lost and needed to get back.A church of a small town in front of mountains on a sunny day. A black bull, the trademark advertisement for Osborne, can be seen.A wide travel path traverses fields with a town and mountains in the distance. There are clouds but it’s sunny overall.

Etapa 7. Vitoria-Gasteiz a La Puebla del Arganzón. 18 km per Gronze/25 per Apple which includes wandering around Vitoria trying to find an open place for coffee.

Not all Camino days are good days. I had a couple of panic attacks this morning which makes for bad walking. While leaving Vitoria wasn’t as bad as I had been told (perfect Sunday stroll), it took those rural roads and hiking up a mountain to shake off the bad mood.

I successfully followed the variant so I wouldn’t have to deal with a steep descent.

Lunch in La Puebla was a bit expensive but had entertainment from a husky.

Camino Vasco Etapa 6. Salvatierra a Vitoria-Gasteiz. 28 km per Gronze, 34 per Apple (I did a detour)

I had been told this day was a slog, but I rather enjoyed it. Sure, no cafes for my café con leche, but I rather enjoyed the rural farm trails and pueblos sin nada.

I saw deer again, some cool churches and took a detour to a sanctuary.

When Vitoria came into sight after a forest, I got excited, but it would be another 6 Km before I was actually there…
