Ce weekend je me suis mis enfin à #SunlessSkies après l'avoir laisser affiner pendant 2 ans sur ma switch sans l'ouvrir. J'avais joué à l'époque à #SunlessSea, son prédécesseur, mais j'avais pas réussi à rentrer dans l'univers.

Avec Sunless Skies, prenez en main une locomotive (vapeur) interstellaire dans un univers lovecraftien, dans un monde empli d'horreurs et autre tentacules. Cette série de jeu a une très belle DA, à la croisée entre le livre dont vous êtes lea héro·ïne et le rogue lite.

It's probably good. I tried several times to get into its predecessor #SunlessSea, and while the world seems absolutely intriguing, I never managed to wrap my head around the gameplay.

Art piece: colored pencil and ink. A horizontal view, half-underwater, half-overwater, of the "beach" of a coral atoll. Everything is rendered in brilliant blues. Above the water, the atoll in the distance rears up into shapes that somewhat resemble chess pieces: a castle, a knight, a pawn. Surf crashes against one side of the atoll; a steamship is riding the crest of a wave toward it. Below the water, the branching hard corals are visible close up; they have multicolored, faceted surfaces, like cracked glass. A chessboard also lies on the sea bottom, partly covered by coral crust. The board is set in the midst of play, but not with the traditional pieces; these pieces resemble paws, hands, tentacles, tree stumps, and other oddities.

"V marks VIOLANT when blood is shed in a spired place. Violant ink is employed for the most desperate treaties..." This is no specific location in the game, as I couldn't think of a "spired place" that would do. It's somewhat inspired by that endlessly creepy cult chapel in Venderbight.

In the center is a window with diagonal panes and a fancy cornice at the top, behind which is a burning flame. The flame is surrounded by scintillations like multicolored cracked glass. Below the window is a cloth-covered table or altar with two lit candles and a ceremonial knife sitting on it. Two curving stairwells appear to the left and right; they are framed by dark brown roots or tendrils.

"I is for IRRIGO. No one remembers why. Irrigo colours the forgotten corners of home." I couldn't think of a great way to represent forgetfulness, so I opted to draw one of the game's irrigo-colored items: a Fluke-Core, salvaged from the brain of an alien monster. The sigils are from The Correspondence, the game's primary eldtrich language. Some are canon; most I invented myself (there weren't that many publicly-known sigils back when I drew this).

THE NEATHBOW, Part 4: "G is lost in GANT, which remains when all other colours are eaten. Gant can be found where shadows are myriad." Gant isn't exactly brown - it's an empty non-color, associated with all the gacky products of death and decay.

Portrayed is the Eater of Names, the "worm-drawn priest barge of the Chelonate," an indiscriminately hostile vessel. I tried *so hard* to blow this thing up, but my captain was never an Iron specialist.

Small sparkles of light - the "false stars" of the Neath - are visible on the wall and stalactites. The boat is made of bones with some kind of leathery connective material, and has the skull of some large creature with a beak and small horns as its figurehead. Two worms leashed to the boat by harnesses attached to the figurehead swim on either side of it and provide its motive power. A sickly yellowish light fills the eyes of the skull and dances in motes around it.

THE NEATHBOW, Part 2: "P drowns in PELIGIN, the colour of the deepest zee." True peligin is darker than black, but I don't have the supernatural resources to depict any of these colors, only suggest them. I always parsed it as slightly purple, so that's what you get in this portrayal of the deep sea, I mean zee.

had this kind of thing happen once in #SunlessSea & ended up losing like 3 crew before finally passing the mirrors check or whatever to “resolve” the “issue.” never mind never getting out of the boat; one should probably just never get onto it to begin with

I had a lot of fun watching it, and though it did disappoint me with a big cliche reveal, I'm still going to watch more. That is, if they make more. With Netflix it's a coin toss regardless of fanfare, it seems. Playing #sunlesssea in between episodes is highly recommended.
