Some time ago I read a great pamphlet about the Swing Riots, their significance and how they have been virtually forgotten compared to the way the Tolpuddle Martyrs and the campaign to return them has been remembered and used as the ‘approved’ template of how to do things by the trade union movement/liberal protest groups.
I meant to paraphrase/share the pamphlet on here. Never got around to it BUT the authors have a slimmed down version as an article online now:
