TWIL about the Parquet format which processes your columnar data (say a CSV) and pushes a bunch of column metadata (like min/max values) to the front of the file which allows fast short-circuiting of queries by reading a short block (say 1k) rather than the whole file (ours are ~12MB a go).
(Also compresses the data but that's a side benefit when you do have to scan the whole file.)
Took one of our Athena queries from ~1TB and 4 minutes down to ~65GB and 9 seconds. Which is a ludicrous gain for such an easy "convert this to that" step.
