I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the National Hand Rolling Competition held in Fujieda, Shizuoka Prefecture, where the Wazuka Hand Rolling Preservation Society participated with two teams. The competition is an opportunity to showcase the hand rolling skills and connect with others farmers who share the same passion.

You can read about my experience in the blog.

New cultivar post, this time a black tea one from the initial registration in October of 1953. This time there was some information available although it’s such an old cultivar that some of the usual comparisons with Yabukita are not there.

On top of that the registered ones for black tea sort of fell out of fashion once the black tea production failed to took off.

After many months reading about it and a couple of breaks in between here is the next cultivar post, finally! There is much more I wanted to share so there is going to be a second part at some point. In the meantime enjoy learning about one of the most commonly seen cultivars out there. There will be a link in the account profile to the full article.

Shikoku is one of my favourite places in Japan and this trip to Kamikatsu in the Tokushima prefecture make it even better than before. Kamikatsu is a beautiful village in the mountains of Shikoku. You you ever need a break from the concrete jungles of the big cities this is a great spot to explore.

The tea tradition of the area, Awabancha will surely surprise you.

I am in Japan participating in the GJTA Master Course. In this post I am just sharing the initial moments of the arrival to Wazuka.

I will keep writing some posts during my stay in Japan if time allows it. Enjoy this small first impression of the village for now.

Just in time before my trip to Japan, the note post about the Kyoto Prefecture is online! I hope to learn many new things to write the second update of the note. For this time I wrote some notes I could find on general knowledge of the region and some of its most known producing areas. And added some important locations instead of historical events (need more time for those).

The review of the book: The Old Tea Seller is now on the blog. I read this book a few months ago and really wanted to read again some passages before writing about it. The book presents two different parts one with the biography of perhaps my favourite tea historical figure, Baisao.

It is a great insight both in some developments of tea but also of the cultural and societal changes that generated.

March is been a good month for the blog overall. We have a logotype now! Also managed to finish the amount of information I wanted to write about Kamairicha.

On other topics I enjoyed several events and 2 great books about tea. You can read a more detailed (and long) round up of this month on the blog.
