I seem to be spending an increasing amount of my time running updates on various computers and devices.
All kinds of devices, several operating systems, varying vintages. All of them still in use to some degree. And all in endless update loops.
Even a video call I was on today got interrupted by a system update. ๐

This afternoons time wasting project... classic retro pc nonsense at its finest. eBay + windows 98 virtual machine, took some work to get it going. But worth it for the nostalgia hit

I am not a Luddite (I mean, I was programming computers in the 1970s, so...ยฏโ \โ _โ (โ ใโ )โ _โ /โ ยฏ) but I can appreciate how the freedom that comes from disconnecting is no longer possible in the modern world.
(By the way, the Luddites get a bad rap. Look it up.)
So I'm not anti-technology and I'm not even really against #socialmedia. But I do recognize how easy it is to lose hours a day to interacting online and I wonder what it is I would have been doing without that?

Not sure why I so often reinvent the wheel. I'm sure there's a formal solution to this, but instead of searching for that I coded a simulation of the distribution of the number of tries it would take, guessing randomly, to get 100% on a quiz if you had unlimited retries.
Edit: Pretty sure this is a problem for the negative binomial or a closely related distribution... maybe I should learn more about the negative binomial distribution.
Writing a pitch for a web-based 'quantum' kaleidoscope, visualising data from a simulated quantum circuit. Put together a proof of concept using classical random walks and it came together surprisingly easily. Hard to get any work done now as I keep staring at it:

There are some very snackable little Beignets de Fromage with cayenne and mustard that must be quite spritely to have with a sharpener after a contretemps with the Fish Course Lycanthrope plot.

So, you've spent a great deal of time writing documentation for a particular feature (despite this really being the job of the Business Analyst, not the Developer) but when you direct people (sometimes the person who requested the document) to it they say 'can you just give me an overview or demo instead?'.
Why? Why can't you just read the document instead - maybe there's an omission in there that can be addressed if someone bothered to read it making it more useful.
