#TimelapseTuesday

2025-03-04

For this week's Time Lapse Tuesday we have an example of sun dogs. In this time lapse from last Friday afternoon, you'll notice a bright, colorful spot to the left of the sun. This is caused by ice crystals in high clouds that refract the light into the colors of the spectrum. You can also see a halo around the sun at times, also caused by refraction.

I've decided to start doing a #TimelapseTuesday each week. Here is the sunset from last night here in Central Illinois.

Tropical #CycloneFreddy ist the most long-lived tropical cyclone on record and has caused major damage and suffering. Tropical cyclones draw their energy supply from the heat stored in the upper ocean, which is increasing due to anthropogenic #globalwarming.

For #TimelapseTuesday, we're sharing three-week imagery of #CycloneFreddy's slow movement across the Indian Ocean to Africa via Europe's #Meteosat9 satellite.

Freddy now holds the world record for “accumulated cyclone energy,” a metric to gauge a cyclone’s strength over time.
