Back on Thursday a patron wanted to know if they'd read several books. Millennium/Encore have reading history, which is opt-in. They opted in years ago. But searching 25 pages for a dozen books is a pain in the ass.

I figured out that Millennium has an export feature. So I exported to a text file and just ran searches in the titles. Fine in like 5 minutes once I figured it out.

Wonder if will have the same.

So I'm trying to make a cookie cutter in so I can imprint a logo into a thing.

I scanned the logo and cropped it in . I followed instructions to convert the PNG to an SVG in . Which I hate hate hate because the buttons are so tiny and its workings so foreign.

Now for whatever reason, TinkerCAD won't import the SVG so I can make an STL.

I tried using a website to do the conversion and TC took the STL, but it looks bad.

I'm at a loss.

I think I'm showing my age. A teen was being a pain in the ass walking away with our golf pencils. I went, "Dude." The look he gave was like, " what does that mean?"

He gave the pencils back though.

I also might have intimated him, being two feet taller and stooping to lower my hand enough so he could give the pencils back.

Hey,

I just want to thank all the academic librarians/archivists etc. on here talking about things. You all are giving me a perspective I haven't really had or looked for since graduating.

I guess the downside of being in a large, public system is they have others to handle a lot of this, so one forgets about it.

So yeah. Thanks.

Thinking about work.

I don't think I'm cut out for Admin work. My head isn't far enough up my own ass.

Only reason I went to their glorified pep rally last year, (beyond being required,) was I was paid and got a meal.

I see buzzwords, Vision Goals, Strategic Plans, etc. and recoil like a cat.

Reading a conversation between various librarians and 'not taking on a million new shiny things' reminds me of how my old boss would do exactly that. He would sign us up for every initiative the admin had.

Really dumb shit IMO like standing at a podium (with no phone or power) and greet people. People would HIDE from us because of that.

Anyway, it was a ploy to get hired in admin at another system.

We'll see what the new boss does.

*Grumbles*

I hate working Sundays. The actual working isn't bad, but the losing one of my days off suuuuucks.

Our library is open every Sunday, but they aren't regular hours. To prevent them from becoming regular, the union does the schedule. So the upside is we get time and a half and are only open 4 hours. The downside is days off aren't worked around.

Poo.

Woo, got tomorrow off.

Good, since I'm working Sunday.

I wonder if the witchcraft or socialism would bring the ire of bitchy patrons more?

Everyone is eating inside then going outside after during lunch. Dang yellowjackets.

Reading about how Barnes and Nobel's reduction in hardcover diversity will negatively affect new author discovery, I just saw this book on the shelf at the library. That's fine here, but it'll definitely negatively affect newer authors.

LRB

Well, that makes sense.

My library is also, (for some reason, wigs bigger than mine is deciding thos,) reducing shelf space. But we also predominantly purchase hardcovers.

Our branch is also trying to promote newer stuff more.

...Might suggest a marginalized author shelf too.

Well, this article on Danielle Steel is interesting: lareviewofbooks.org/article/th

She is one of the authors that I typically make fun of for having so many books, but with this, my admiration of her has grown. Similar to Nora Roberts, who had to take a pen name so as to not overcrowd herself on the new titles shelf.

(This is as opposed to James Patterson, who evermore feels a charlatan compared to these women.)
