Any #wasps expert here? We might have a queen hibernating in our bedroom, and would love some advice. I have disturbed her this evening, and she started buzzing around for some minutes. Went out, closed her inside, and by the time we returned with a cup to catch her she has disappeared and has gone completely silent. Windows and doors shut, so we believe she has probably crawled in some remote corner within the wardrobe. What should we do? Leave or find her?

At the base of a tree lies a wasp nest, broken into about 12 large pieces, some opening the insides towards us to see closed or occupied cells.

I haven’t posted here for a while so here is an invasive and #AsianHornet (Vespa velutina) that recorded in France this summer. This one was in the Pays de la Loire.

Yellow leg tips, dark head+thorax, thin yellow band on abdomen, yellow/orange 4th segment on abdomen.

I made the honeybee feeder yesterday before work. Now it seems very popular. I grew up with three honeybee hives and they didn't have this much activity on all three sugar water feeders combined.

I noticed this morning that the wasp yellow jackets and honeybees tolerate each other on the feeder, but only the honeybees can feed upside down directly from the Mason Jar lid holes. The wasps don't appear to enjoy that agility. This is the first time I've seen the two species mingle next to each other. Usually wasps stay away from honeybee parties and dance on flowers at a distance.

I haven't seen any of the solitary bees or solitary wasps yet...

Realized I've not done any bug posting since I changed servers! Going to be reposting some of my fav pics, this here is a gorgeous beewolf! They're chill herbivores except when the females want to lay eggs they'll paralyse a few honey bees, carry them to a nest and lay the eggs next to them for their larvae to feast on! Once the lil wasps have eaten their fill they'll leave home and then spend the rest of their lives peacefully eating nectar 🥰

Was so pleased to see this cutie, especially as this was taken on the day I made a big stride towards beating my phobia of stinging insects during a walk through lavender fields with my darling @cait 💖
