If you're heading to #ResBaz Victoria in a couple of weeks, check out "Solving 10 research challenges with the ARDC HASS and Indigenous Research Data Commons" for a a deep dive into the #TroveDataGuide led by @Infoventurer : resbaz.github.io/resbazvic2024 #Trove #GLAM #histodons #digitalHumanities

A researcher got in touch yesterday asking about saving digitised periodicals in #Trove as PDFs. All the various bits you need for this are in the #TroveDataGuide, but I hadn't actually pulled them together as a notebook. I thought it might be useful to others, so I've now created a #GLAMWorkbench notebook that helps you download all the issues of a digitised periodical as PDFs: glam-workbench.net/trove-journ Enjoy! #GLAM #histodons #digitalHumanities @histodons #researchInfrastructure

At some point #Trove fixed the bug that meant advanced searches for collections whose NUC id includes a colon returned no results. I suppose I can remove that warning from the #TroveDataGuide now...

Adding some examples of the different types of digitised #maps in #Trove to the #TroveDataGuide...

Screenshot showing a grid of six different maps: Abbotsford estate, Parramatta River, 1907; New Guinea exports, 1939-1940; Darwin, 1952; Hémisphere méridional pour voir plus distinctement les terres australes, 1782; Vegetation, Darling system, 1978; This new British terrestrial globe: containing all the latest discoveries and communications, 1814.

It's #familyHistoryMonth in Australia, so I'm going to try and post something every day from the #TroveDataGuide & #GLAMWorkbench that could be useful for people researching #genealogy, #familyHistory, & #locaHistory.

First up is the Tasmanian Post Office Directories – a full-text database that lets you to search for names and addresses across all 48 volumes digitised by Libraries Tasmania from 1890 to 1948. And it's free! glam-workbench.net/tasmanian-p #histodons

ARC assessment done and #TroveDataGuide update sent off, currently fiddling with a new Zotero translator...

This week: review an ARC application, more on #Trove's digitised maps, write something about #TroveDataGuide for PHA newsletter...

I can't remember if I ever did an #intro post, but it's probably out of date anyway. I'm a historian who has spent much of the last couple of decades working in & around the #GLAM sector, building #open tools & resources to help other historians do interesting things with digital collections. I used to be Associate-Professor of Digital Heritage at Uni of Canberra, and Manager of #Trove at NLA. Now I suppose I'm semi retired, though busier than ever working on my own projects and sometimes on consultancies/contracts.

My main projects at the moment are the #GLAMWorkbench and the #TroveDataGuide, which bring together a whole lot of tools, hacks, documentation etc assembled over many years. This sort of practical stuff fits into my broader research interests around the nature of this thing we call 'access'. There's more on my newly-updated website at timsherratt.au .

Updated the issues lists for the #GLAMWorkbench (github.com/GLAM-Workbench/glam) and the #TroveDataGuide (github.com/wragge/trove-data-g) to try and set some priorities for the next 6 months...

I've added the #TroveDataGuide's tutorials to DRESA's list of digital skills/training resources: dresa.org.au/search?utf8=%E2%9 #histodons #GLAM #Trove #digitalHumanities

I've just enabled Hypothes.is on the #TroveDataGuide so you can add comments, annotations etc, and construct deep links to content. tdg.glam-workbench.net/home.ht

Today I've been working on cleaning up some of the #TroveDataGuide sections on getting data out of digitised resources (other than newspapers). For example, this page which shows you how to construct urls to get various versions of pages/images: wragge.github.io/trove-data-gu

Wrote up a quick post about the last (for now) of the #TroveDataGuide tutorials I've been working on. This one gets data about digitised maps in #Trove and uses it to create a layer in the Gazetteer of Australian Historical Placenames (GHAP). updates.timsherratt.org/2024/0 #GLAM #digitalHumanities #histodons #maps

Today I'm going to be dropping in and out of the ARDC's HASS and Indigenous Research Data Commons Symposium 2024: ardc.edu.au/event/hass-and-ind As well as tinkering some more with the #TroveDataGuide.

For all the things you want to know about #Trove that the NLA won't tell you, head to the #TroveDataGuide. Sometime in the next week or two I'll be finishing off the current version: wragge.github.io/trove-data-gu

Quick post on the new #TroveDataGuide tutorial that helps you turn your #Trove List into a CollectionBuilder exhibiton: updates.timsherratt.org/2024/0 #GLAM #histodons #digitalHumanities

Done! Another #TroveDataGuide tutorial drafted. This one walks you through creating a dataset of digitised maps from #Trove and uploading them to a layer in the Gazetteer of Historical Australian Placenames. wragge.github.io/trove-data-gu #GLAM #digitalHumanities

Screenshot of the GHAP 3D map viewer. The map is centred on Fiji and displays information about a layer containing metadata from Trove's digitised maps.

Plan for next #TroveDataGuide tutorial (ie today's job): show how to use the notebook I created yesterday to create a subset of geolocated digitised maps from #Trove, then add the map data as a layer in the Gazetteer of Historical Australian Places... #GLAMDataPlumbing

Another tutorial drafted for the #TroveDataGuide! This one converts a Trove List into an online exhibition using CollectionBuilder. wragge.github.io/trove-data-gu #GLAM #digitalHumanities #histodons
