So after 2 years (wow, I didn't realise I'd been and gone from :pillowfort: *before* the #tumblrpocalypse), I went back to #pillowfort. Totally spammed the timeline testing all the things.
Also been making a userstyle because PF ain't the prettiest...
I don't know what happened in the year since the #Tumblrpocalypse but at a purely technical level, the site has never really recovered. Half the time, posts won't save and I have to abandon them.
Why did no one think of creating an FOSS, federated version of/response to #tumblr all this time?
There are quite a few differences between Tumblr and Twitter, which constitutes so much of the inspiration for Mastodon and other OStatus-based sites:
1) Tumblr's interface emphasizes images/video/animation over text and (hash)tags.
2) Tumblr embeds *trees* of replies and quotes within each other.
Somebody should have known that the #Tumblrpocalypse was coming, but did anyone prepare?
#tumblrpocalypse was unexpectedly good for me, because it kickstarted a thought process that was moving slowly, about what all the Stuff I Do Online was for. So in the past few weeks I've focused on preserving my art and protecting it against arbitrary deletion. This meant
*creating a master list of sites I'm on,
*lots of reposting of old work across different platforms, including old ones like Furaffinity and new ones like #pixelfed
*hurrying TF up already with bringing my webcomics site back
hooergh tomorrow i should actually see the wreckage of the #tumblrpocalypse and what it hath wrought... and probably mirror sweetdisabled (spoonie lolita blog) on to wordpress or something and actually write more shit for it. i have a whole quote reference at the ready for a whole rant of " #lolitafashion done badly is still worth doing bc a) you are learning b) fuck it it's a motherfucking goddamn dress you're not exactly going to plunge us into eternal darkness with an awry ruffle"

@sprite_1ww Also, as it happens, it turns out that giving platforms too much of yourself is a bad idea, which is how this conversation started, because the things I mentioned doing in the OP are a reaction to the #Tumblrpocalypse.
I'm researching #Tumblrpocalypse for the next @HackerRadioShow , specifically its effects on creative artists & writers as well as LGBTQIA+, sex-positive, sex-educator, sex-worker, etc. communities.

Jokes aside I'm worried because I've been able to grow the largest audience for my art on tumblr, and once that audience scatters my ability to make money off my art could significantly decrease :/ There are probably lots of small creators in similar OH FUCK positions right now

Topless Topics should come to Mastodon. Her entire thing is what's being targeted in the #tumblrpocalypse and it's not the first place that's happened.
