Interesting afternoon at the Turner Prize exhibition at the Towner Gallery in Eastbourne.
Barbara Walker's work is stunning.

Eastbourne hosts #TurnerPrize2023 and as part of this we have Nathan Coley’s “I DON’T HAVE ANOTHER LAND” on our library at the moment. It has been incredibly poignant these last few weeks

Today I learned that altough #SussexUni has no art school, it has two #TurnerPrize winners.

Lucky enough to get down to the #TownerGallery in #Eastbourne to see the shortlisted nominees for #TurnerPrize2023 courtesy of #SussexAlumni.

Barbara Walker
Barbara Walker works in a range of media and formats, from paintings on canvas to works on paper and large-scale wall drawings. Growing up in Birmingham, Walker's experiences have shaped a practice concerned with issues of class and power, gender, race, representation and belonging.
In this body of work titled Burden of Proof (2022- 2023), Walker brings careful attention and visibility to individuals and families affected by the Windrush scandal.Still from an introduction video showing the artist creating the work. “These drawings will be washed away by the artist at the end of the exhibition […]”

Exciting to spot Michael Ranowitz #Lamassu outside #Eastbourne’s #Towner gallery today - here for the duration of the #TurnerPrize2023 exhibition, here this year. It’s made of empty date tins - a reminder of the ecological disaster of the #Iraq war. For me also nice connection btw #oilpalm and a module on ancient civilsations of the middle
East i once did, a long time ago
