🌏 Common myna (Acridotheres tristis)

The common myna, or Indian myna (sometimes spelled mynah), is a medium-sized, stocky bird, typically dark brown with a glossy black head, yellow bill, eye-patch, and legs. It has prominent white wing patches visible in flight. Native to Asia, its distribution has expanded globally due to introductions, making it a highly invasive species in many regions including Australia, South Africa, and parts of Europe and North America. They are ground-foraging omnivores, often seen in pairs or small flocks in urban and agricultural areas. Their behaviour is characterized by their bold, noisy, and aggressive nature, frequently displacing native birds and competing for resources. 2.5 Flash (Edited)

Two subspecies are recognised.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)
