Having tried the camera while at recently, I can say that such smartphones are wildly overrated, yields pretty poor results especially indoors or in full harsh sun. Low-quality / low details, bad exposure and saturation, and the much touted fake shallow depth of field bokeh blurs the wrong things most of the time.

Next time I'd want to use a DSLR + strobe + umbrella. Don't know if UN security would let me use that kind of gear though, as @ajolo couldn't even bring in a tripod…

And now some live-tooting from "Invisible Work, Critical Code – The Role of Maintainers in Open Source Digital Infrastructure", a session led by the Sovereign Tech Agency. Examples of public infrastructure: electric grids, railways, roads and bridges, and... sewers! And now for a provocative metaphor: "Open Source is a sewer". Let's see where this leads us! #UNOpenSourceWeek #UNOSW

To continue creating and sustaining open digital infrastructure that serves the public interest, we need to: understand how these different layers work, how they connect, and address them intentionally.

It’s great to see the experts from our delegation actively contributing with their expertise – helping shape the discussions with their experience working on critical digital technologies.

"and that we need to address and sustain them in different ways, if we want to get somewhere with open digital infrastructure that serves the public’s interest.

The Sovereign Tech Agency is a quasi-public government organization investing via public procurement in maintaining digital infrastructure in a way that it serves openness and participation, and makes it possible for different participants to build software, maintain software, and innovate, which we believe is crucial..."

Sharing and talking about Germany's work in this area is particularly exciting. Through the Sovereign Tech Agency, we’re paving a way for how governments can invest in open digital infrastructure, and therefore in #OpenSource in the public interest. That means investing in people, strengthening what already works, and preparing the next generation of contributors and maintainers.

The components that form open digital infrastructure is de facto global and shared. That's why coming together at the United Nations makes sense, with voices from around the world. This week is a great moment to connect with others who care about the digital commons, open infrastructure, and our shared responsibility for the future.
