How to Soothe an Itchy Bug Bite 🦟

There are a number of ways to stop scratching, from medicines to mental tricks.

“Itch, pain, tickling sensations and temperature all travel on the same neural highway, so to speak,” said Dr. Heather Goff, an associate professor of dermatology at UT Southwestern in Dallas. “When you flood that highway with other traffic, you override the itch.”

RT #www.smukher2.eu #www.smukher2.co.uk #www.smukher2.com #www.smukher2.net #www.smukher2.org #smukher2 To #HiringManagers of #ProspectiveEmployees namely organizations like #Academia #FundingAgencies #ResearchJournals #TechCompanies #BiopharmaCompanies:
The global rejections for jobs I rightfully deserve continue...I've informed you before that for years I have not been getting jobs that I am best fit for infact I'm more often than not better than the hiring manager (ref). I allowed, you (the hiring managers) a space for introspection with that initial post, so you can mend your ways and hire me, but the global rejections continue....the rejections come NOT from the organizations but from the hiring managers example: #UCLA #UTSW #UniversityOfMiami always kept/keep me upto speed in their application system, their automated (robot) inform me as my application moves forward and finally let me know that its with the hiring manager, who will make decision. At this stage of reaching the hiring manager, I get rejected (either before or after interview). In my other post (ref) I mentioned to you what? and I asked why? Today, I will give you some facts to show you why?
The reason is very simple, most organizations unfortunately are filled with bosses (employer or hiring managers or PIs) who are basically the untalented loser clingy needy parasite types (see attached), because the talented hardworking host types (me type) will jump at the opportunity of hiring someone better than me because when trainee/employee does better it makes the boss' work profile look better (that's how we got Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and finally Alexander the Great), but the untalented loser clingy needy parasite types bosses suffer from inferiority complex when a applicant/employee is better than them and worse think a employee better than them will replace them. Let me give you examples of 3 such bosses I came across from US, UK and Germany (its a global phenomenon):
1) Brent Fogel University of California Los Angeles US https://www.uclahealth.org/providers/brent-fogel, this person hired me in his dead lab that did not do any work in 15 years or more, he and his lab spent more time writing baseless accusations trying to make me scapegoat for their failures. He was extremely insecure, at HR meetings when I handled his baseless accusations that I don't know anything, with prove showing I knew it but it was he who didn't have a clue, his face used to turn red with embarrassment and he could not even sustain eye contact with me (atleast in 2 or 3 such meetings HR secretly indicated me to stop presenting my case/evidence of my proven merit because Fogel looked like he would cry)
2) Fengxiang He University of Edinburgh UK https://fengxianghe.github.io. This one was all excited to take my interview and said he was impressed that I wanted to learn AI and he was expert so he could teach me as my advisor. As a minor formality, he gave me a couple of papers and said I need to write a proposal based on it. Now, in less than 7 days I wrote 2 or 3 research proposals, and thereafter he was gone. The proposal I wrote was above and beyond any of his below par scientific AI research (that's not just my feedback, I submitted the proposal to other applications and all of them said my proposal was one of the best), and guess what he started stalling avoiding me, did not have the guts to reject me (another insecure boss).
3) Sven Brandau University Hospital Essen Germany https://www.uni-due.de/zmb/members/sven-brandau.php. This one was all excited to take my interview and said he was impressed by my bioinformatics work, and wanted me to present my latest Heliyon (Cell Press family) papers. So I did that in the interview and I saw exactly the same Fogel expressions on his face when I started proving my potential. And guess what he started stalling avoiding me, did not have the guts to reject me (another insecure boss)
P.S. Yes, I am knowledge oriented so focus on facts but here I show I also have the right kind of people skills i.e. like in science experiments people too I can observe and interpret, think of it like people experiment (observation skill combined with logic+knowledge can be really powerful for drawing inferences, as I learnt from Sherlock Holmes mainly quote “Watson you see, but I observe”)

RT #www.smukher2.eu #www.smukher2.co.uk #www.smukher2.com #www.smukher2.net #www.smukher2.org #smukher2 To #Everyone #ProspectiveEmployees namely organizations like #Academia #FundingAgencies #ResearchJournals #TechCompanies #BiopharmaCompanies:
Today I was answering a job application questionnaire designed to evaluate my soft skills. These questions predominantly focused on evaluating my work style and people skills. I figured, all my prospective employers must have these question about me so decided to provide a gist of it here.

To sum up my soft skills as knowledge worker in 3 sentences (also see attached 2 images),
1) I believe in 'keep calm and respect your boss' (coffee mug quote), so I say "yes minister" (yes boss) when boss assigns me knowledge work no matter how hard the work or how long the todo list. (ref: Yes Minister is title of one of my favorite comedy shows https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080306/)
2) ability (talent) In knowledge domain and knowledge work, I have proven merit, ability to learn, ability to problem solve and am trainable for knowledge work, so I am proactive at knowledge work and am best fit for knowledge work.
3) hardworking (not lazy) I am sincere and have ability to work hard, so when you hire me you can be rest assured that I will not time steal from you -- time stealing is same as stealing money from boss because boss pays me for my time to do knowledge work. Time stealing, I define as wasting my getting involved in people's knowledge work instead of focusing on my knowledge work.

Let me explain these 3 points further:
Setting boundaries at work is key. I get paid to work so I invest 100% of my work time to work. Sure I talk to people about work when I have to about work, to get work done. Example I will tell lab reagent supplier to send in more reagents if reagent I need for experiment at work runs out, their job to supply and its my job to buy -- I'm not asking for favors.
I ignore or say no to volunteering my help (do favors) at workplace to anyone because I don't want to waste, rather time steal even 1% of my work time, because I am sincere and my boss pays me for my work time. I gather the courage to say no to time waste at work by remembering the advise of #WarrenBuffett that "Really Successful People Say No To Almost Everything" (ref: Learn more about Warren Buffett https://www.britannica.com/biography/Warren-Edward-Buffett).
Now remember, I said earlier I am "yes minister" (yes boss) type. So the only way to get me to help others by reviewing their work, doing their work, fixing and problem solving their work, and furthermore training/teaching/mentoring them is by making it my job to do this as per direct order from boss. Here my work becomes both knowledge work and people work. Example During my PhD and postdoc, I mentored several talented and hardworking, students/postdocs assigned to me by my boss and did a great job.

Now, what about my hobby knowledge work like #fairwissenschaft project, review of science/tech/humanities/arts news and reviews I do for scientific journals like Nature Cell Frontiers? Well, I do this hobby knowledge work because of 2) i.e. I have both aptitude and drive for knowledge work, so I always give my best to knowledge work. Its said "an empty mind is devil's workshop", so I also do #fairwissenschaft project and reviews to prevent crappy frustration that comes from unemployment (I'm unemployed now) and to hone my knowledge work skills so that when by God's grace I get job again, I can hit the ground running. Once employed, it will be my boss' decision if I should continue with #fairwissenschaft and reviews for journals or not, once again applying 'yes minister' principle. (continued in comment)

My latest for #UTSouthwestern:

Vaginal #progesterone, a hormone treatment considered the standard of care for preventing #preterm birth in at-risk pregnant women, may not be effective, according to #UTSW research published in #JAMANetworkOpen. The findings come just as the #FDA is likely to pull #Makena progsterone injections from the market, leaving few options for women and underscoring the need for more research in the area.
