Dislike those messages about #UbuntuPro? Then you won't like this

#Ubuntu and its various remixes remain free distros, but it's getting harder to remove the messages about the paid Ubuntu Pro offering… which is by design, and it's not going away.
Ubuntu 22.04 Dailies Show an Ubuntu Pro Notification on Login
When I wrote about the new “Ubuntu Pro” section in Ubuntu 22.04‘s software settings panel I said the banner wasn’t a nag screen or a desktop notification but something you had to go out of your way to see. Not so in the latest daily builds of the Jammy Jellyfish. Upon login today I was greeted by a desktop notification asking ‘do you want to enable Ubuntu Pro’. Two actions are available in the notification: “Don’t remind me again” and “Enable Ubuntu Pro” (though thanks to a bug the notification will appear on every login even after clicking “don’t remind :sys_more_orange:

What is the ‘Ubuntu Pro’ Banner in Software Sources About?
A few readers have mailed in to tell me they’ve spotted a new promotion for Ubuntu Pro in the Software & Update apps on Ubunu 20.04 LTS. The banner isn’t a nag screen; you have to open the Software & Updates tool (which is often referred to as the ‘software sources’ utility) and click on the Livepatch tab to see it: Livepatch is Ubuntu’s LTS-only reboot-free kernel update mechanism which is especially handy in situations where rebooting a system (or a fleet of systems) to apply a security update is …unideal. Chances are those looking to enable Livepatch are the :sys_more_orange:
