That's a big thumbs up for #Gnome desktop and #Ubuntu as an operating system. It's a shame to be let down by the proprietary apps (Chrome and Zoom), but those are the ones she needs to use.

I used #Ubuntu with the #Unity desktop for a while, but then switched to #LinuxMint because of its ease of use.
I now use #LinuxMintDebianEdition (#LMDE) because of its better compatibility with RaspberryPi and #Raspbian (#RaspberryPiOS).

When Windows 11 came up and heard some stuff about it, I just decided to finally ditch Windows. That LTT vid where Linus tried Linux, it was around that time when I moved to Linux. I went back to it with Ubuntu 21.10. Stayed with Ubuntu until half of May 2022, where I moved to Arch because I felt confident to up the ante I guess, then the rest was history. Arch to Debian, to Fedora, to openSUSE, to Gentoo, Slackware, the rest.

6 days before Windows 10 support ends. The "last" Windows version, for me at least, before I moved to Linux, for good.

I started to dip my toes on Linux with Ubuntu 18.04. Stayed there for a month before I decided "nah, this felt a little weird and I wouldn't be able to run stuff I need for school" so I went back to Windows 10. I mean Ubuntu 18.04 genuinely felt like a "breath of fresh air" for me, but I was in middle school that time so yeah.

For normal compute usage, a mini x86 pc is probably "better". But a #PI is more fun ;-) And also useful if you play with ARM64.

The PI5 support is not great; there is also no official #Debian image, for example. Still is hoping that #raspberrypi will work on better support.

Currently I'm using #ubuntu with #freebsd virtual machines on my #pi5

@zeab as @laund noticed, *24.04* is named #Noble Numbat, next release with all #Rust replacements and additions is 25.10 called #Questing Quokka - it lies foundation to see if all that makes sense.

Next #Ubuntu LTS 26.04 is called #Resolute Raccoon. We'll now shortly before RC if changes done to QQ stay in the LTS
