Anyone else experiencing errors with their #UptimeRobot services? Status pages aren't loading and sign-in fails too
My #GoToSocial instance is now online. Pulled the image 0.18.0-rc2 and now everything seems back to normal:
services:
gotosocial:
image: superseriousbusiness/gotosocial:0.18.0-rc2
Here's the Github issues that explained what happened: https://github.com/superseriousbusiness/gotosocial/issues/3787
I now got the status back up notification from #UptimeRobot:
Monitor is UP: Deuts One ( https://deuts.one ). It was down for 31 hours and 14 minutes.
What did we learn from this experience?
compose.yml
file.#UptimeRobot was great but they kept bombarding me with emails about wanting me to upgrade even though I meet their criteria for a free plan. Language like "we suspect your are not meeting our TOS".
So I moved to Uptime Monitor and Pulsetic, the later seems to be working out better.
Is #UptimeRobot a second #TeamViewer?
Really rather disappointed with #UptimeRobot as a tool, I've had an account for many years now and despite being on a legacy / grandfather plan, finding more and more functionality getting disabled or nerfed.
I had been seriously considering paying to upgrade my plan with them to get improved check frequency and some other features but I'm back now to leaning towards avoiding giving them my money and finding an alternate SaaS or self hosted solution and accepting it'll probably still cost more
I usually use UptimeRobot (https://uptimerobot.com/) to monitor my stuff, but I had to install Uptime Kuma (https://uptime.kuma.pet/) to troubleshoot something for the boss.
It looks interesting.
#UptimeRobot #UptimeKuma #ServerMonitor
I just installed #UptimeKuma
https://github.com/louislam/uptime-kuma
It was relatively easy to get notifications to #signal and #telegram to tell me if my #website and #webservice is running.
You can pull the container with #docker and #docker_compose.
The reason is that #uptimerobot is switching to a paid plan for commercial services.
Within an few minutes, I also added a #status #page for the #OpenWebCalendar: https://kuma.hosted.quelltext.eu/status/open-web-calendar
Nachtrag:
Der Support von #UptimeRobot hat sich gemeldet.
Für non profit Organisationen (wie Schulen?) läuft das wohl kostenlos weiter:
"thank you for reaching out.
We are happy to support you. You can continue using the FREE plan without any interruptions. We will ensure your account remains active and is not suspended.
If you need any further information or assistance, please don't hesitate to let us know.“
😍
Been using #UptimeRobot free plan for years, it's great for the 3 personal websites I monitor. They want more people to pay so they updated their terms of service. I will sign up for alternative services so it doesn't matter if they delete/suspend my existing account.
I guess I'll stop using #uptimeRobot and just put the checks in #uptimeKuma on my own monitoring system, as appareantely even non-profits have to pay unless you apply for 'sponsored accounts'.

For anyone who’s interested, I decided to replace #UptimeRobot with Pulsetic;
It’s not perfect, and I’ve already opened several tickets to flag various quirks and whatnot, but I reckon it will work for most people, especially for the #MastoAdmin who just want some basic checks for the uptime of their instance.
Has a free tier, and the company that makes it looks pretty decent so far.
Fingers crossed, etc. Would love to hear if anyone has prior experience with them, good or bad 🙂

@mejofi #UptimeRobot was not be trusted anymore since about 1 or 2 years ago when they removed features from paid accounts or suddenly turned them into add-ons, which in our case quadrupled the price overnight just to have the same service as before.
All complaints about this were ignored or answered with marketing foo.
Add to that the fact that the #UptimeRobot terms of service state that it’s the customer’s responsibility to check for any changes to those terms, changes which are accepted automatically through continued usage, and this increasingly sounds like they are trying to sneak something shady past their customer base, which isn’t a good sign if they ever get sold (maybe they did?) or decide that the data they gather is valuable for, say, ‘AI’ training or whatever.
That is enough for me to file an objection, and cease doing business with them.
I know there’s other #MastoAdmin who use them as well. You may want to consider doing the same.
Just checked my email before turning in for the night, and I noticed a message from #UptimeRobot, announcing, on a Friday at 21:00, that they would be transferring all services and data to another company within their group, in a different jurisdiction.
I have two problems with that; 1) they are giving us, the customer, seven (7) days to object to this, on a Friday night, which is rather shady, and 2) they are changing jurisdiction from Malta to Slovakia, which is currently governed by a fascist (who recently got shot, but survived) who seems intent on out-competing Orbàn’s Hungary in its assault on freedoms and human rights.
Just switched from #uptimeRobot to #hyperPing
Any suggestions for alternatives? Primarily need Telegram/Signal notifications.
Ok, so #UptimeRobot updated their plans and removed Telegram integration from their free tier. It also no more works in their "Legacy Plan". Meh. Also for some reason I can't switch to their "new" Free tier: "Not Available". Grmpf.
EDIT: Ok, still works with the new bot, but very misleading UX. The new bot says: "To activate the bot use command you got from the dashboard." And the dashboard says this integration requires a plan upgrade. 🤦♂️
