Ever heard of visual snow?
It's a rare neurological condition where people constantly see static across their vision, even in complete darkness. It's not an eye problem, but a brain processing issue. Awareness matters, even for the rarest conditions.

Last night I learned about the visual snow syndrome. I guess I've always had that? I thought people usually saw things as if through a kind of static.

Also,
✅ Seeing floaters
✅ Photophobia (bright light hurts)
✅ Seeing negative after images

I thought everyone had those and just learned to ignore them most of the time like I do?

Oh yeah, I also get migraines with auras sometimes, but luckily those are rare these days. The auras for me appear as absences of things in my visual field, so I know that's definitely not the same.

Anyway, I'm not a doctor... Maybe I'm just over self diagnosing or smh.

@Dallin I honestly feel like and are just two sides of the same coin, brain making shit up that isn't there, just in two different processing centers.

My literally feels like looking through old black and white static from old televisions between channels, but clear.

At different times in my life I've also experienced phantom smells too. :emoji_wink:

@Dallin All of my contacts in Neurology have confirmed that and are definitely comorbid w/ . My daughter (9) has been developing and as well, but hopefully her preventative will do more for her .

I was diagnosed w/ TMJ, and had a bite plane, had jaw surgery, the whole nine yards. Did nothing for my .

My SO was diagnosed w/ TMJ, and her bite plane has been incredibly helpful reducing her headaches.

Felt like my and were extra loud and thick this morning, respectively, and then my head started to hurt, like a mild precursor to full . Electrolytes with breakfast didn't seem to stop it, so started the pre-abortive cocktail of benadryl, ginger extract, and Emeterm bracelet (all anti-nausea), with green LEDs on (don't actually help with migraine, but feels nice on the eyes).

Was hoping it wasn't going to be a day, but 🤷‍♂️.

Found out today that I've had visual snow for quite a while. Was asked if I have any floaters at the opthalmologist. I said no floaters but I see "rainbow TV static pixels" everywhere and they can make it harder to see at night. Here's a picture that's supposed to show what having visual snow is like. I'm now seeing my opthalmologist yearly since I take #hydroxychloroquine and #dupixent which can affect vision. #VisualSnow

These both look "snowy" to me but I can tell the beach and palm tree to the left look clearer and the beach and palm tree to the right simulates what I see all the time which I described as rainbow TV static pixels everywhere.

First blog post in a while, this time a little bit of a personal one. It's about why, a few years ago, conferences suddenly became very difficult experiences for me, how I've learned to better cope since then, and what others can do to help.

Anyone on Mastodon deal with mysterious #chronicpain which seemingly randomly moves around various joints? (Along with a sudden onset of #visualsnow & suddenly worsened #tinnitus.) Always asking this everywhere and open to any unusual suggestions as all conventional methods aren’t helping thus far & blood tests reveal nothing. But from its unexpected onset know it likely isn’t “just” psychology and know others have probably walked a similar path….

Philosophy + psychology time! I think (because it was that way for me) that having #visualsnow syndrome predisposes one to rejecting naive realism from a very young age, preferring indirect realism or idealism.

I remember, as a kid, opening a cupboard and closing it again, wondering whether things would continue to exist when they weren't observed (=in the closed cupboard). I don't think that was an issue of object permanence. The fact that I remember this 1/?

oh yeah wanna see what my janky ass vision looks like bc of visual snow? I photoshopped it a while ago

Also, tried to open-eyed meditate tonight with a candle and it was fucking agony.

I think this is a #VisualSnow thing? Apparently light sensitivity is a big deal and it is mostly having to stare in one place that I can't deal with.

I gave up seven minutes in after basically starting to cry, it feels like absolute solid writhing pain in my head. Is this normal for anyone else?
