It leads to all the things docs want to prevent - it makes patients not go to the doctor -which surprise surprise does not lead to good outcomes
Weight stigma also makes drs overlook real issues blaming them instead on ob*sity
If you are a medical dr & you truly care about your fat patients - here is how to best help them (& people at every size!)
1. Advise on healthy behaviors
2. Do not advise on weight
3. Work to end systemic issues
4. Stop blaming individuals
The most significant thing that caught my attention (among many) is that #mentalhealth seems to be only indirectly mentioned. Although they have addressed #weightstigma and bias multiple times, which is commendable. I'm looking forward to seeing more discourse change and progress in this area! (4/4)
