No. 9, “Giust.” A brick-paved plaza, downtown, at night; here in the foreground on a brick bulwark a trompe l’œil chessboard of bronze, seemingly just unrolled for a game, with a handful of pieces casually set at one corner, notable among them a bishop and a king. Streetlights blaze about the edges of the plaza, and the neat sandstone façade of the post office across the street.
