#YDNA

“RNASeq analyses suggest Y-chromosome gene expression differs between brain and blood tissues but does not differ significantly in cases, controls or specific haplogroups. Overall, we did not find any strong associations between Y-chromosome genetics and Parkinson's disease, suggesting the explanation for the increased prevalence in males may lie elsewhere.” #isogg #dna #YDNA #Parkinsons #haplogroups #geneadons

And we have just discovered another new Y-DNA haplogroup R-FTD79893 that can be traced back in genealogic time to the area around Osnabruck, Lower Saxony.

Last names are Burlage, Stottmann, and Hollenkamp.

Origin is near Ankum, Lower Saxony.

A distant Derby cousin and I recently got our Big Y-700 results back. I'm hoping other cousins from the last few centuries to millennium will test too to refine the results, but for now – behold our haplogroup! discover.familytreedna.com/y-d

So I'm getting tantalisingly close, but still waiting for that crucial first estimate of when the ancestor I share with some Derbies in America was born.

I think we're close to some of the connections on paper, but it will be hard to get any closer. DNA is a nifty extra tool to see if I'm on the right track.

A while back I upgraded to the Big Y-700 test with FamilyTreeDNA. Problem is, it takes months for the DNA sequencing to be done, then weeks to get a broad haplogroup (most recent common ancestor a few thousand years ago), then a more precise haplogroup (more recent common ancestor), then a list of matches and an estimate of how many years ago the most recent common ancestor was born.

A new 🧬 adventure begins. Y not? mito's well.

(I've had my autosomal DNA results transferred to FamilyTreeDNA for a while now, but I'd like to get the hang of Y-DNA and mtDNA matches, and with the recent sale, I decided: why not start with myself?)

#familytreedna is nailing it this year for me! After the addition of the #yDNA Discovery tool and the new Globetrekker, yesterday, they also announced something for their autosomal DNA customers: a yDNA-haplogroup in the Metal Age blog.familytreedna.com/y-dna-h

“Recent advances in long-read sequencing technologies have allowed the generation and curation of more complete genome assemblies, enabling the analysis of traditionally neglected chromosomes, such as the human Y chromosome (chrY).”#isogg #dna #geneadons #epigenetics #YDNA

@sven I did not started any #YDNA testing, since my direct #Geisinger Ancestor is my mother and my Grandfather and his brothers already passed away. May be I will grow an interest in it when all the existing sources are gathered.

@sidaba 160 lines? Wow, that’s quite a sizeable study. I was thinking #YDNA would potentially help to connect and differentiate between the lines. But finding testers is never easy…

Once read a 23&Me blog post citing a steep decline in the % of people identifying as African American when they had <28% African ancestry.

This was the case for my direct paternal great grandfather as well who would have been around this % and self-identified as white.

His WWII draft card had Race initially marked as "Negro", crossed out in red pen, and updated to "White"

Nothing like waking up on a lazy Sunday to find that #FTDNA has assigned me a new #YDNA haplogroup! Not totally unexpected, tho.. So, greets from R-FT12654!!

Y111 match with an Irishman. mean for a common ancestor is 1650. My male line is believed to come out of Wurrtemburg circa 1750s to Pennsylvania. Thirty Years War effect? Can only speculate..
