#Leila_Hosseinzadeh, the prominent leftist student activist and the former secretary of Tehran Uni Student Council, has been on medication strike since Dec 20th protesting the prison’s swapping of her Crohn's Disease meds with steroids.
Leila revealed to her family that prison officials denied her vital medications & replaced them w/ steroids to mask her physical symptoms. In response, she's refusing to participate in the prison’s “medical fraud” & won’t take any medication. Her symptoms have worsened since.
Leila, an anthropology graduate student, has been arrested multiple times for her activism. In 2020 court doctors recommended her sentencing be commuted for health reasons. However, she was arrested again in Dec 2021 and released after 26 days.
Most recently, Leila was brutally beaten & arrested in front of her house on August 20th, 3 weeks before the killing of #Zhina_Amini. In support of the protests, Leila refused to wear the mandatory hijab in prison and was denied visitation, for which she went on a hunger strike.
