Why Does The Boeing 777X Have Different Wings Than The Original 777? dlvr.it/TQlFQn #aircraft #aircraftdesign #Boeing #Boeing777X

@ColinTheMathmo
Ah, rabbit-hole explorer, eh? I confess I'm pretty deep in this warren myself. I believe it's for trim, is used in normal flight (but isn't itself the elevator, which might be what you were asking, that's a separate control surface), and has no flaps (basically they're on the wings). Happy to be corrected; I write in a relatively amateur capacity. You may enjoy this thread: homebuiltairplanes.com/threads Fair warning: it may lead to wanting to build little airplanes.

*edited to add: I think post #31 in that thread (first post of page 2) is particularly pertinent to your question. I believe the author spent much of their career in vibration engineering (I don't know the proper name for their subspecialty, but anyway, suffice to say they're a switched-on cookie).

🚀 Ah, yes, the miraculous "trailer" for planes—because who doesn't want to tow a glorified box with wings at 30,000 feet? 🎈 Apparently, slapping a few extra tons onto a jet and calling it revolutionary is the aviation breakthrough nobody asked for. 🛩️

Playing with Google's updated ImageFX #AI tool.

It has an idea what it should be creating, nailed the atmosphere and framing I was looking for, but really missed out on the actual aircraft design.

The prompt: A flightline of Canadian Avro Arrow Bomber aircraft. It's big, with square intakes and a single seat cockpit. crewmen and support personal are scrambling to launch the aircraft. The aircraft are in either camoflage livery. The image should be in the style of one taken by a war correspondant taken from a low angle. The aircrew and support people should be energetic and very dynamic. Safety gear and support equipment litter the tarmac. Stylized, contrasty, grainy 35mm film Frame the shot so that we are close up near the cockpit of one aircraft, while multiple can be seen in the background. Perhaps include one flying overhead, as if it just took off.

A group of military personnel in green uniforms with yellow safety vests are clustered around a large, camouflaged aircraft on a flightline. The aircraft has a distinctive sharp nose, large round engine intake on the side, and a single-seat cockpit with a pilot inside. Ground crew members are attending to the aircraft, with one on the nose, and others handling equipment on the tarmac. Another aircraft is visible in the background, and a plane is seen flying overhead in the sky. The scene is reminiscent of a war correspondent photo, with a vintage, slightly grainy aesthetic.A group of military personnel in green uniforms with yellow safety vests are clustered around a large, camouflaged aircraft on a flightline. ✈️ Understanding Stability: Dihedral vs. Anhedral Wings 🛫

Ever wondered why airplane wings are angled differently? ✈️ Dihedral wings (upward angle) enhance stability, keeping the plane level by naturally correcting roll. 🛫 Anhedral wings (downward angle) boost maneuverability, ideal for fighter jets and acrobatic planes. Knowing the difference helps us appreciate the design choices behind different aircraft. 🌐 youtube.com/shorts/N0jZS-14nQQ
