#Thanatosis is the #behavior of #animals to #pretend being #dead in order to deter #predators. This behavioral response to a threatening stimulus is the result of #evolution. The thanatosis procedure can be a rather simple retaining in a motionless position, but it can also be rather #complex, as in the North American #opossum, not only playing dead, but even emitting a #foulish cadaver-like #smell out of its #analgland. #adaptations #behavior

So, my dog has had a very unpleasant day.

I took her to the vet, and instead of checking off "nail trim" they checked off "anal gland expression."

I don't think she was expecting that.
