The film "A Face in the Crowd" by Elia Kazan, written by Budd Schulberg and staring Andy Griffith & Patricia Neal was released this day in 1957.
"A Face in the Crowd" chronicles the rise and fall of Larry “Lonesome” Rhodes (Andy Griffith), a boisterous entertainer discovered in an Arkansas drunk tank by Marcia Jeffries (Patricia Neal), a local radio producer with ambitions of her own. His charisma and cunning soon shoot him to the heights of television stardom and political demagoguery, forcing Marcia to grapple with the manipulative, reactionary monster she has created. Directed by Elia Kazan from a screenplay by Budd Schulberg, this incisive satire features an extraordinary debut screen performance by Griffith, who brandishes his charm in an uncharacteristically sinister role. Though the film was a flop on its initial release, subsequent generations have marveled at its eerily prescient diagnosis of the toxic intimacy between media and politics in American life.

Yes, "Matlock" may have been an old show with Andy Griffith, but Kathy Bates feels like producer Jennie Snyder Urman has claimed the show as her own with the new "Matlock."

All the recent private attempts at lunar landings makes me want to point out that Andy Griffith showed us all how to land on Moon in 1979 in the movie Salvage. #70sMovies #Space #AndyGriffith #TransLinearVectorPrinciple

On November 14, 1953, the Colonial label in Chapel Hill released Andy Griffith’s monologue “What It Was, Was Football.” Colonial was owned by Chapel Hill newspaper publisher Orville B. Campbell, who had heard Griffith perform the comedy bit at a luncheon earlier that year.

🥥 Little known fact: Young Ron Howard taught actor Andy Griffith how to fish when they both lived in Mayberry.
Griffith never went hungry after that, Patrick. 🥥

Wow! I'm blown away here, considering a vastly different singing style than what I'd associate with him. You'll find more of this off the Album, "Somebody Bigger than You and I."

ANDY GRIFFITH is now on Peacock.
And since I always complain that streaming services don't promote classics, I'll point out that it has the lead banner on Peacock's TV page!
This Paramount-owned show was previously exclusive to Paramount Plus + Pluto. Yay, monetizing!
This is not a poll but rather an ask for film suggestions. Is there a film that you regularly quote, a film that you loved so much that you just had to buy it on dvd, a film that you remember from your earlier days or a film that is so bad that it is good?
To reiterate: my 2024 resolution is to watch 1-2 films a week. Films that I have never heard of or seen, the so called "classics", or films I chose not to see as they are not "my thing". Yes, I am looking at you #DawnOfTheDead and #DieHard.
I have managed to watch 3 so far this week as I rest in bed with a nasty cold. The gems that are #AfterLife by #HirokazuKoreeda, #LaPiscine starring #AlainDelon and #AFaceInTheCrowd with #AndyGriffith (go on, whistle the tune).
