Raven Grimassi argued that Leland had published a "distorted version" of the story of Aradia, and that there really had existed a mortal woman named Aradia di Toscano.

Aradia di Toscano, according to Grimassi, who also calls her "The Holy Strega", or "La Bella Pellegrina" (the Beautiful Pilgrim), was a woman from Tuscany, born in 1313. Grimassi's Aradia was taught witchcraft by her aunt, and used her power to "challenge the existing order".

The neo-pagan mythos of #Aradia is 20th century AMERICAN fiction. No such story exists in the actual mythos of #Italian or Afro-Sicilian #MagicalPractitioners. And it never has.

#ModernWitchcraft doesn't need to pretend it has these non-existent links to the ancient cultures of Etruria, and Tuscania to be perfectly valid and worthwhile.

The Aradia legend is nothing less than cultural appropriation, and complete fabrication. And it should stop being misrepresented as Italian, when it's an American tale.
