Bummed, I just noticed the Space Invaders: World Defense app doesn't really work anymore-- it doesn't connect to the servers or high scores, it errors out when you try and play outside.

Space Invaders: World Defense came out in 2023 and was really cool, it had an AR aspect, you could go outside and see the ships coming down in the real world. I messed around with it some back then and took some photos, but I can't find them. Should've messed around with it more then. I guess they shut it down a while ago, I can't find any info on when. It's also not in the Play store anymore.

You'd think a company like Taito could keep servers running for more than just a couple years 🙄 but I guess not. Reminds me of when I was super bummed when the Puzzle Fighter app was shut down many years ago - that one was fun as hell too.

Well, RIP Space Invaders: World Defense. Here's the intro screen and a screenshot of what you can still do in the app now- it's super limited. I was able to fly around and blast things but no scores were recorded and everything else errored out when trying to contact the servers.

Judging by only a single day of playing, #MonsterHunterNow seems like a fun game.

I got bored with #PokemonGo in a few years time.

#Ingress has kept me hooked for around 7 years or so.

#PikminBloom is also pretty good since it's very low maintenance.
You basically look at what you've found after your trip and apparently #MHN has taken some of those ideas with a few features.

It's a pity the AR game genre is pretty dead. Not that many games around... I mean #Ingress came out in 2013 so like 10 years ago and I still mainly hear people play only two games: #Pogo and that.

Lots of #ARGames have been cancelled recently.
Potter, Minecraft, Walking Dead, Witcher, Catan, Transformers, Moomin... all cancelled.

I know lots of people are fine with #PokemonGo but I think its gameplay loops have grown stale and boring by now...

If you've played #Ingress or #PokemonGo but want to try out something completely different but GPS/AR based, I suggest trying out #Orna. It came out in 2017 I believe and has flown under the radar.

Этот приём появился ещё во времена #ingress. Игроки заметили, что когда идёшь и останавливаешься, то виртуальный игрок продолжает ещё некоторое время двигаться в том же направлении за забор, сквозь дом, через речку. В этой игре точно также есть возможность протиснуться туда куда уже никак не дотягиваешься, достаточно только разбежаться в стенку.

Главное отличие игры от всех модных покемонов и подобных заключается в том, что в ней нет необходимости ходить в одни и те же места и повторять одни и те же действия. Поощряет исследование новых территорий и новых путей. Не заставляет выходить из дома в непогоду ради выполнения ежедневного плана. Возможно всё потому, что сделана одним человеком ради собственного удовольствия, а не большой компанией ради извлечения прибыли.
