Can photography be impressionistic?

I believe so, especially when you leave home with 100 ISO film in your camera, and at some point during the day decide you're staying out and going to a rehearsal of the Lonjas de Ansina Candombe group in the evening.

You don't try to do what you can't do, and lean into the inevitable, loading it with expressive intention.

A black and white photo taken on a foggy autumn evening in a street of Montevideo, with old buildings and trees on the sides. The photos in the series were taken with low sensitivity film, using long exposure, which causes them to have significant motion blur. The subjects are a large group of Candombe drummers and the crows that follows them dancing. The photo was taken facing the drummers at the front of the group. Everybody is wearing warm clothes, and the drummers have their drums hanging on their left side, with a strap over their right shoulder. The motion blur marks two distinct moments, the beat of the drummer's step as they march down the street. Someone is walking into frame from the left side, their face, distorted by the blur, looks almost like a goblin's.This photo was taken once inside the group of drummers, facing one side of the street and two lines of drummers on that side. At the centre of the photo is a toddler playing on his appropriately sized drum, in step with the rest of the group.Another photo taken inside the group of drummers. The motion blur has increased as the photographer can't resist the drums. One drummer on the left can, somehow, be seen quite clearly, but the ones towards the right blend into each other. In front of them, a person dressed in black and with dark long hair, dances. We can tell they're facing the left side of the photo, but their facial features are lost to the motion.The dancer in black is to the right of the photo, very close to the photographer, but facing away. On the left side there are several drummers. With the photographer completely overtaken by the drums, it's become very difficult to make out individual drummers, and the street lamps and their reflections on the shiny paint of the drums draw squiggly lines across the photo.
