It's really sad that nowadays I need to triplecheck everything to figure out if it's legit or #aislop

Anyhow. It's legit!! Enjoy!

Large Hadron Collider: Cooling water supplies residential area with heat

The water needed for cooling the Large Hadron Collider at CERN is now being used for heating: it supplies Ferney-Voltaire with district heating.

Wouldn't it be cool to say that your home was heated by the Large Hadron Collider? A new blogpost on CERN's website says that is exactly what's happening in the French town of Ferney-Voltaire. Here's how it works.

And last but definitly not least: ALICE: A Large Ion Collider Experiment. Sadly they didn‘t open the humongous doors this year, because starting this summer they will do the proper overhaul. It’s also a beautiful machine from the outside… even though another LHC experiment tries so hard with beauty in its name (looking at you LHCb).

And here is Isolde, basically an Isotope factory. Also an Information overload when getting a tour. Pretty small beamlines, but I‘d try and avoid handling that proton target… might be a bit too spicy even for my taste.

Today at #CERN sure was a day, got to see CLIC a cute little linac, and then a look through the Antimatter factory, including ELANA, Gbar, the Antiproton decelerator, and AEgIS.
Pictures are in that order.

@mf_magazine Who plants these stories? What's the "news" but #CERN's increasing obsolescence? "Nuclear #science" is a #retro throwback in #2026 (and they don't have a clue what quantum mechanics is: "strange behaviour"...spooky!)

The ultra-cold temperatures needed for epic nuclear science.

Physicists use the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), buried in the ground on the border between France and Switzerland, to unravel secrets of the tiny particles that make up our Universe.

One of the world's most sophisticated scientific facilities is turning to ultra-low temperatures.
